Obituary of Mary Bart
Biography
Mary Louise (Fitzhugh) Bart, aged 78, of Simla, Colorado, died peacefully on May 10, 2011, at the Good Samaritan Center Nursing Home in Simla.
Mary was born January 21, 1933, in Harrison, Westchester County, New York, the daughter of Pressley Medlin and Rose (Norris) Fitzhugh. Mary grew up in Harrison and graduated from New Rochelle High School in 1950.
While working at Playland Amusement Park in Rye, New York, Mary met Salvatore John DeBartolo (a.k.a. Sal J. Bart), and they married on August 16, 1953. They had one child, Sharon Ann. About 1960, Mary, Sal, and Sharon moved to southern California, where they lived for eight years, and then relocated to Las Vegas, Nevada. Mary and Sal divorced in 1970 in Clark County, Nevada.
Mary trained as a seamstress and worked for numerous dry cleaning stores during her lifetime, beginning her career at Fines Cleaners in Rye, New York. When she retired in 1996, she moved from Las Vegas to Simla to be near her daughter and her family. She worked at G&R Grocery there for a few years before suffering a mini-stroke and eventually undergoing triple coronary bypass surgery. She recuperated in Prairie View Nursing Home in Limon, and then took up permanent residence at Simlas Good Samaritan.
Before moving to Simla, Marys favorite pastime was playing bingo and the slots in Las Vegas casinos. She won many big payoffs, often reinvesting her winnings in the next game or using the extra cash to visit her daughter. After she moved to Simla, she spent much time with her family, frequently entertaining, loving, and annoying them, but as Mary used to tell her daughter growing up, You dont have to like me, you just have to tolerate me. And she tolerated their quirks as well.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Kathryn Jane (Fitzhugh) Adamczyk; a brother, James Fitzhugh; and a half-brother, John Jack OConnor.
She leaves behind to mourn a daughter, Sharon DeBartolo Carmack, and Sharons fiancé, James W. Warren, of Salt Lake City, Utah; a granddaughter, Laurie (Carmack) Almeida, and her husband, Dash Almeida, of Lebanon, Oregon; a former son-in-law, Stephen H. Carmack of Carson City, Nevada; several nieces and nephews; and a large and loving family of nurses, staff, aides, and residents at Good Samaritan.
