The First Time I Met You
Posted: January 20, 2012 | Last Revised: January 20, 2012
Such a long time ago it seems that I met her. It was a great night and one we will not soon forget. Kathie shared this memory with me just weeks before she had passed. We cried a little and we laughed. This story is not one that many people know about and I thought I would share it.
The night dad met Kathie:
I was young and full of emotions and not quite sure that I was ready for my dad to fall in love again. He had met this lady of beauty on such a fitting night. We laughed and she laughed her notorious laugh. We shared wonderful memories together as well. It was getting late and we had decided to call it a night. She had rode to dad's in his truck that night and they thought that it would be a great idea for me to drive her back home. I was not yet 16 and only had my permit and I had not the first clue on how to drive a stick shift. They laughed hysterically at the idea of me driving his stick shift. As we were at the bottom of D Ave the truck stalled (probably my fault) and we were stuttering and puttering for the next hour until finally reaching her house. They laughed uncontrollably and Kathie kept saying, "you're doing a great job, keep going." I knew she was fibbing. I was tired and frustrated, but embellished at the sight of my dad so happy and seeing him walk her to her door. That was the first night of many that they had said goodnight to each other.
I made my dad drive home. I was tired and wanted to go to bed. He insisted that I stay up with him for the next hour and listen to him talk about this pretty wonder he had met and he wanting my approval. We went to bed that night with so much on our minds. The next morning I awoke with happiness in my heart and so did he. I gave my blessings and not long after that she became part of our lives and part of our family. Her memories will be cherished in our hearts forever.
Kathie was a fun and loving person and loved to spend time with those closest to her. She was loved by many and will hold a special place in our heart for an eternity. I am blessed to have had her in my life and I find peace in knowing that I will one day see her again.

getting her to like me
Posted: January 20, 2012 | Last Revised: January 20, 2012
I met Kathie in 1995, I had just started a relationship with her baby brother, as she called him. Kathie and I were not starting off well,
I could tell right from the start that she did not like me.I tried everything. After a while her and i SLOWLY started to talk and thats when I found out that she never hated me,but she had to make sure that I was good enough for her, baby brother.
After that we became friends. She was one of three people that we would allow to babysit our three kids, and boy did she love that.
Kathie you were always smiling and that smile will never fade from our memories.
I love you like my blood sister.
and as always GO BRONCOS!!!!!!!!!!

She hated them leg braces
Posted: January 20, 2012 | Last Revised: January 20, 2012
My family and I were able to be with Kathie before she passed and one thing that stuck out to me is what she said "Tommy you could always push my buttons!" Well i guess that was true, i remember way back when we were growing up and as you who knew her, knew she was pigieoned toed. When she was little she had to wear those big cumersome braces on her legs like forrest gump wore in the movie. Mostly when she went to bed, but she always had to have help getting out of them. So i figure out if i wanted to mess with her and she couldn't chase me i would have to do it in the morning before mom got her out of them so she couldn't catch me. Well this one piticular morning i did just that! I remember running across the back yard with kathie chasing me with those darned braces on. It may sound alittle funny now but i knew she meant bussiness and if she caught me i would really be in trouble. Well she ended up braking the braces and she did catch me. When she caught me though, she tickled me untill i peed my pants. Thats the kind of girl she was: Determined, persitant, and most of all very loving. Never seen her in those braces again! And i think she walked just fine! Love you sis!

I miss you more than words can describe. I take great comfort in knowing that you are with our savior. I find peace in knowing that you are free of suffering and up there to watch over us all. You were a mighty awesome fishing partner to dad and I know he will hold on to those memories forever. We all miss you and love you dearly.

Bronco Space Blanket - December 25, 2006
Posted: January 20, 2012 | Last Revised: January 20, 2012
I being a lifetime Pittsburgh Steeler fan must say I have never had the ENTHUSIASIM Kathie had for her Denver Broncos. Kathie loved her some Denver Bronco cheering and was not subdued in CHEERING them to victory!!!
Christmas of 2006 Kathie called and wanted to know what Alexander likes so she get him a gift. I told her he is into space "stuff". So she made for our three old son not a black and gold blanket but what I call the Orange Bronco Space Blanket (see photo in the gallery).
Now of course she knew Alexander was being groomed to be a Steeler Nation fan. So I can just imagine her laughing Bronco Orange tears as she made this blanket for Alexander.
To this day Alexander still uses the blanket to keep warm and it reminds us of "sweet" Kathie as he likes to call her.
John Frank
By the way Kathie, Alexander is a Chicago Bear fan - go figure!
