Obituary of Orville Chapin
Orville Edward Chapin born November 26, 1910, passed away August 24, 2013 at the Life Care Center of Greeley. He was born in McDonald, Kansas to Louis Edward Chapin and Frances Katherine Guthrie Chapin Richards. He and his family, moved to Max, Nebraska at an early age. He was the youngest of his family of four siblings. William, Lewis and Edna all preceded him in death. He attended school in Max, Nebraska and married his high school sweetheart, Florence Ada Updike, who also preceded him in death in 1999. They had two children, Shirley (Woods) and John.
In 1944, the family moved to a farm south of Burlington, Colorado where Orville began his farming career, being one of the first farmers to irrigate in the Smoky Hill area. In 1961, they built a home in Burlington and resided there until 2005, at which time Orville moved to Greeley, Colorado to be closer to family and remained there until his death.
Orville was a member of the Prairie Pines Golf Club where he enjoyed daily rounds of golf with his friends. When the weather turned cold, they then met in homes to have a rousing game of cards. He loved watching the Broncos and the Rockies. He and Flo would spend afternoons singing old songs and playing the piano.
He is survived by his daughter Shirley (Larry) Woods and son John (Laura); four grandchildren, Julie (Jerry) McVicker, Brad (Sarah) Woods, Tom (Amanda) Woods and Natalie Chapin; six great grandchildren; and one great, great grandchild.
He was a long time member of the Burlington United Methodist Church.
