Obituary of Glenn "Andy" Rector
Glen Andrew (Andy) Rector was born on October 3, 1941 to Glen I. and Margaret W. Rector at Limon, CO. He passed away on December 30, 2013 at the age of 72 at Penrose Hospital in Colorado Springs. Andy was one of three children. At six months of age the family moved from north of Agate to Andys present home 9 ½ miles south of Agate where he lived for 70 plus years. He attended Agate School all 12 grades and graduated from Agate in 1959. He obtained his Vocational Agricultural Education degree in 1963 from Colorado State University. While at CSU he met Joan Brimmer from Biddle, Montana. They were married on August 18, 1963 in Broadus, Montana. They both began their teaching career in Bennett, CO where he taught Vocational Agriculture and Joan taught 1st grade. Following Andys fathers death January of 1966, they moved back to the home place where he took over management of the family farm and ranch.
To this union three children were born. Daughter, Tammy Kay was born in 1966, son Larry Glen in 1969, and son Jerrel D in 1973.
In the early 70s Andy received his pilots license and began flying his beloved 1968 Citabria traildragger. During the last several years this plane became a focus of his as a restoration project.
Andy served on the PCA Board for 17 years. He became Chairman of the Board for several of those years. From 2001 to 2010, he also served on the Farm Credit Board of Wichita. He and Joan thoroughly enjoyed being with all the people involved with these boards as well as with the travel they were able to experience. He was a member of various other boards including the Elbert County Fair Board, FHA, ASCS, the Agate Fire Department and the Agate School Board. Andy took over as acting Superintendent for the final semester due to the illness of the Agate Superintendent.
Always a man who planned for the future, Andy, Larry and Jerrel formed Triple R Farms Partnership in 2002. So his love of agriculture as a way of life will be preserved.
Andy really enjoyed his grandkids. He loved to have conversations with them, tease them, and even attend some of their school and 4-H functions. His grandkids were the apple of his eye.
Andy and Joan celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary this past August. Family and friends from eight states attended to help celebrate the occasion. He was able to spend Christmas with his family and share many stories from the past.
Andy was preceded in death by his daughter Tammy, and his parents.
He is survived by his wife, Joan; his son Larry & wife Teffanie; son Jerrel & wife Krista; and grandchildren Wyatt, Jerraldawn, Kaitlyn and Lauren, all of Agate; sister Colleen Pakuer (Floyd) of Deer Trail; and sister June Behrens (Dana) of Strasburg, and numerous nieces, nephews and other family and friends.
