Obituary of Peggy Lee Jones

Peggy Smith Jones was born October 30, 1929 in Phoenix, Arizona. She was the oldest of three children. Her brother, George smith, and much later a sister, Rosie, joined the family. When Peggy was two years old the family moved to Bovina, Co. then the next year they moved to Hugo, Co. When she was 5 they moved to Boyero, Co. They then moved to Idaho for several years, and back to Hugo. Peggy attended school through the 6th grade, but later as an adult she went to night school and studied under Donald Kimble, Wayne Parton, and Jan Huffman. She remembered that there were 5 student in the class. In 1950 she and her husband, Bill Tidball, moved to Limon where she has remained for the remainder of her life. Even though her marriage dissolved, she and Bill remained friends, and she visited him often in the nursing home. She loved to provide him with art materials, for his favorite hobby. Peggy later married O.D. Jones, and they had one daughter, Rosemarie. Peggy loved to read Bible, faithfully reading at least 3 chapters every day and through the Bible every year. She also loved to be in small Bible study group with Sue Morrison and Barbara Berry. She also has kept Limon Librarian, Luci Reimer, very busy keeping her in reading material for many years. The last years due to her failing eyesight she has enjoyed books on CDs very much. Peggy’s mother taught her to embroider which she did for her pleasure but also to benefit many worthwhile gifts to organizations for money making efforts, such as RSVP, a beautiful quilt, and Limon United Methodist Church women’s craft sale, Carla’s Cluster Care a quilt, Baby Bear Hug’s, and many baby quilts. Peggy loved to volunteer with different groups. She was a member of RSVP while it was still in existence, and has gone to the Nursing/Assisted Living facilities in Limon and Hugo for many years to “Sing Along” and play bingo with the residents, making cakes for bingo day, as well as providing food for church groups, funeral dinners, and anything else that need food. She went for several years to the Christmas Basket “Food Sort” in Hugo in December. She would load up the tray of her walker and distribute food to the correct area. In 1977 Barbara Berry approached Peggy’s friend, Mary Beth McCandless about setting up a bank account for Peggy as the Treas. Dept. wanted to be able to direct deposit for everyone. This was a new idea to Peggy, but the three of them went to the bank and set her up. Barbara then became Peggy’s bill payer, as well as her assistant in many other aspects of her life. To this day they have remained close friends, and she will be much missed by Barbara and her other friends who have answered her needs over the years. Peggy was preceeded in death by her parents, Ina Chartier, & George Smith, Bill Tidball; son Billy George; daughter, Rosemarie; and brother-in-law, Gene Thompson. She is survived by her sister, Rosie Thompson, Niece Beverly Thompson, great niece, Dezray; and great nephew, Thad, and their family; and many friends.
