Obituary of Dorothy Anne Pieper

Dorothy Anne (DA) Pieper passed away surrounded by her loving family on August 30, 2022. DA was born on December 6, 1924 in Calhan, Colorado to John and Gladys Lough. She moved to Peyton in 1927, attended school there and graduated in 1942. Afterward she attended Colorado A&M (CSU), and graduated in 1946 with a degree in Home Economics. She married her childhood sweetheart, John L. (Nap) Pieper, on August 25, 1946. She taught Home Ec at Denver North High School while supporting Nap’s law school education. In 1952, they moved to Calhan so Nap could work with his father at Farmers State Bank. That summer twins, Joan and John were born in June. Four years later, Candy was born in September. Randy was born seven years after Candy. Even with four children, DA felt a calling to serve her community. She served on the El Paso County Planning Commission for 8 years, the County Visiting Nurses Association, and the Calhan School Board for 12 years, four years as President. DA was the Worthy Matron of the Ramah chapter of the Eastern Star and a state officer of the Colorado Grant Chapter. She was also a member of the Daughters of the Nile. Locally, she was active in the El Paso County G.O.P and the Calhan United Methodist Church for 70 years. DA was the president of the United Methodist Women for 20 years and served as Vice Chairman and Chairman of the Farmers State Bank Board. DA is survived by her four children; John, his wife Patty, daughter Katie (Dane), son Johnny; Joan, her husband Jack, daughters Lori (Preston) and Lindsey (Taylor), Candy, her husband Earl, daughter Cassie and son Evan, Randy, his wife Debbie, daughters Zayna (Brendan), Maija, son Brennan, and daughter Kytelyn. She has four great granddaughters. A private burial will be held for family members. The Celebration of Life will be held at the Calhan United Methodist Church on September 9, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. Following the celebration, a luncheon will be served by the UMW.
