Obituary of Lynn Kaufman
Lynn Alan Kaufman, age 63, of Limon, CO, passed away on Thursday, April 14, 2022. He was born to Dean and Helen Kaufman in Flagler, CO on May 20, 1958. He is survived by his three children, Ryan, Kyle and Ethan (Rachel), sisters Linda, LouAnn, Lisa, Leslie (Ted) and brothers Lanny (Kathy) and Larry (Betty). He is preceded in death by his mother Helen.
Lynn lived a life dedicated to his family and to youth sports. If Lynn wasn’t in a meeting for baseball, or on the mail route, he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, Alex, Liam, Matilda and Oliver.
A graduate of Flagler High School in 1976, Lynn played football, basketball and baseball throughout four years. He enjoyed his best friend Rick Jorgensen, his nephew Greg and his brothers and sisters – cruising around Flagler and getting pick-up games going in the park. Later in life, Lynn would spend weeknights playing volleyball and softball.
After graduating from Community College of Denver with a degree in Electronic Data Processing in 1978, Lynn entered the workforce with Avaya Telecommunications where he worked for 33 years as a Project Manager. He had a large group of friends that would attend weekday social events, that’s how he met his wife Jeanne, who he was married to for 20 years. After moving to Limon in 1993, Lynn would continue to commute five-days a week to Westminster, rarely missing a day, and only heading out early so he could catch his son’s many sporting and school events. His children recollect not a single sporting or school event was missed by Lynn.
A longtime volunteer for Babe Ruth baseball as the State commissioner, Lynn was paramount in ensuring organization and competition for kids aged 9-18. His wisdom, ingenuity and dedication are legacies that will continue on with the youth the league serves. He was a big believer in participation in baseball, trying to grow the game as part of his lifelong love of baseball. The passion for the game has transferred to all three of his children and his legacy will live on through the sport.
Lynn throughout his life would find another excuse to be around sports as a referee and umpire for 32 years. Basketball was his favorite sport to referee, as a member of IAABOU. He would continue officiating well into his cancer diagnosis.
After retiring from Avaya, Lynn was a Rural Carrier Associate for the Post Office for the last nine years. He would hardly miss any time and would work around his many doctors’ appointments he would have for the last 4 years. So much so that the hours before he checked himself into the hospital, he was delivering mail.
He will be missed by all that knew him, including his many nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly.
