Obituary of Philip Lee Plumb

Phillip Plumb of Arriba, Colorado passed away on Saturday, April 2, 2022, after reaching the age of 90. After months of failing health, he died peacefully in Hugo, Colorado with his beloved daughter Rosalee by his side. Phil was born in 1931 in Flagler, Colorado to Loren and Mabel Plumb. He was the oldest child growing up on a small farmstead 25 miles northeast of Flagler. He learned to work on vehicles at the Ford garage in Flagler, Colorado as a very young man. This led to an enlistment in the Army in Fort Riley, Kansas, as a mechanic. He served from 1952 to 1960. In May of 1953, he met the love of his life, Rosalynn McCue. They were married in August of 1953. They were blessed to be parents to four children, Loren Glen Plumb, Rosalee Cronk, Dawn Plumb, and RoxAnn Brooks . They lived together almost inseparably for over 52 years. They lived on a farmstead 17 miles northwest of Arriba and together raised four children while planting the seeds for a burgeoning dryland wheat farm. He spent most of his life as a wheat farmer, even if that just gave him an excuse to keep being a mechanic; the Wagner and Gleaner equipment gave him plenty to work on. He was a member of the Arriba Lutheran Church and volunteered with the Arriba School Board. In 1974 they built the home Phil was able to spend nearly the remainder of his life, living there for almost 50 years. Phil loved family, and he was a strong patriarch. He was always there to support his kids and grandkids in their extracurricular activities. He loved to watch and even play with his kids and grandchildren. He loved to be with family and was always up for a picnic, reunion, or gathering of friends, as long as there was pie! He was a good father who always cared for his children and did his best to teach and guide them; he was a loving grandfather. The greatest service Phil could show his family was his hard work ethic. It portrayed his desire to ensure they would not see the hardships he felt during the Great Depression. He worked very hard his entire life to ensure this goal was achieved. Phil was a strong, determined, and good man. He is loved and will be missed by many. He is preceded in death by parents, Loren and Mabel Plumb; wife, Rosalynn Plumb, siblings, Della May Plumb, Betty Rae Metcalf, Barbara Jean Gibbons, Verle Dean Plumb; children, Loren Glen Plumb Mr. Plumb is survived by siblings Margery Ann Pitts, Vella June Vassios; his loving children, Rosalee Cronk, Dawn Plumb, and RoxAnn Brooks; nine grandchildren;16 great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, and other beloved friends and relatives.
