Obituary of Eugene R. Leverett

Gene Leverett, 86 of Limon, Colorado passed away on May 7th. He was born April 16, 1934 in Fort Collins, Colorado. He was the son of Glen and Jean Leverett. Gene’s family lived in several different locations in the country, eventually settling in Ohio. After graduating Shelby, Ohio High School, he enlisted in the United States Navy. After his service, Gene enrolled at The Ohio State University to study veterinary medicine. While in vet school, he met Ruth and they married in 1956. Gene and Ruth moved to Limon Colorado in 1962 with their 4 children. Their 5th child was born in Limon. Gene practiced veterinary medicine on the Eastern Plains of Colorado and opened his own vet clinic in 1973 for both large and small animals. Gene continued his education and achieved certification in the specialty of animal reproduction. Gene loved his work and for 50 years he doctored animals until he retired in 2012. Gene enjoyed working and living in Limon. He liked to call his home on the Eastern Plains of Colorado “Heaven”. He never wanted to live anywhere else. Throughout his life, Gene was passionate about mastering guitar playing, backpacking in the mountains and attending community events and outings with friends and clients. He is survived by his wife, Ruth, his children Gregg Leverett, Tina(Dale) Collins, Cinthia Duroche, Diana (Ernie) Hatfield and Blake Leverett along with his grandchildren, Zachary Harrison, Ryan Achor and Brandon Collins, William, Ben, Emma and Kyra Leverett, Alexander Duroche, Wolf and Elise Leverett and four great grandchildren. Gene was a long time supporter of St. Joseph’s Indian School. If you wish to make a memorial contribution you can do so online at https://give.stjo.org/ Cremation.
