Obituary of Alice D. Harreld

Alice Darlene Harreld, 69, of Limon, Colorado, went to be with the Lord in Heaven on Saturday, May 2, 2020, while surrounded by her family. She was born in Denver, Colorado, to the late Harold and Helen Arlene (McCoy) Jensen on March 12, 1951. Alice was raised in Denver, graduated from Cherry Creek High School in 1969, and went to work for Blue Cross and Blue Shield where she met her husband, Galen Harreld. They married in March of 1976 and set up residency in Lakewood, Colorado. In May of 1978 their first child, Cassandra (Harreld) Vernie was born. Two years later they decided to move to Limon in May of 1980. Alice and her husband, Galen, ran Harreld & Sons Wheat Treating, and they also opened up Westside Liquor shortly after moving to Limon. In 1984 their second child, Randy Harreld, was born, and Alice balanced being the mother of two children with running two businesses. They ran those businesses until they sold the liquor store in 1988 and built and opened Arby’s in Limon. After selling Arby’s in 1993, Alice was a stay-at-home mom until she went to school to earn her real estate license in January of 1997. She realized real estate was the career for her, as her parents owned their own real estate company in Denver when she was young, so it was like carrying on a tradition. She was a real estate agent for Limon and the surrounding communities until she passed away. Having been in the profession twenty-three years, she was the longest-practicing licensed real estate agent still working in Limon. She had handled hundreds of real estate transactions over the years; she sold some homes in Limon two or three times over the span of her career. She was very attentive to contract deadlines and attended all inspections when working for the buyer or seller. She absolutely loved helping people find a home or sell their home, this brought her true joy. Alice was a selfless, caring, loving and strong woman; she always put others’ needs before her own. She loved to spend time with her family whether it be camping, on a trip to the mountains, a spur of the moment vacation, sitting on the patio around the fire or just around the dinner table or in the living room. She enjoyed watching her grandchildren in any sporting event, concert or program in which they were participating. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother, sister and friend. The people she loved, she loved with all her heart. She touched so many lives during her short time here. She will be missed, but the memories of her will live on forever through the lives of others. Alice is survived by her husband, Galen Harreld; two children, daughter Cassandra (Greg) Vernie and son Randy (Kim) Harreld both of Limon, Colorado; three wonderful grandchildren, Abby, Zach and Lexi Harreld; brothers Eric Jensen of Ohio, Michael Jensen and Ronnie Jensen both of Colorado; sister Janice Quiroz of Texas; and many cousins, nieces and a nephew. A memorial in her name has been set up with Limon School and donations can be mailed to: Limon School c/o Alice Harreld Memorial, PO Box 249, Limon, CO 80828. A Celebration of Life is pending at this time and will be announced at a later date. Cremation A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
