Obituary of Robert E. Palmer
Robert E. Palmer was born on November 18, 1932 in Hugo, Colorado to Clifford J. and Velma L. (Owens) Palmer. He attended Boyero and Hugo schools growing up.
Bob passed away on January 28, peacefully in his sleep, at the age of 87 in Hugo, Colorado.
Bob was married to Marie Taylor on October 2, 1954 in Hugo, CO. Bob and Marie were ranchers in Boyero, CO for over 30 years before moving to town. They then started remodeling houses for resale. They shared 65 years together.
Bob was a member of the Lincoln County Stockmen’s Association where he was awarded a lifetime membership, the Colorado Cattleman’s Association, the Hugo School Board, the Lincoln Community Hospital Board, and a founding member of the Booster Club. He was awarded the Hugo High School Honorary Fan in 1981-1982 as well as the Booster Club Fan of the Year in 2009-2010.
Bob enjoyed trips to the ranch, volunteering his time at the Lincoln County Fair, and his most recent hobby of mid-morning cruises around town. He was a great husband, father, grandpa, uncle, and friend to many.
Bob is survived by his wife Marie Palmer, his two sons Don of Hugo, CO and John (Sandi) of Hugo, CO, as well as his daughter Jo (Jay) Herl of Goodland, KS. He is also survived by his nine grandchildren, Jase (Jacee) Herl of Ozark, MO, Jade Herl (Pat) of Fort Collins, CO, Kelsey Monnett of Goodland, KS, Erik McDaugale, Adrian (Sam) McDaugale of Karval, CO, Andy Padilla, Angie (Casey) Shaw of Fort Worth, TX, Jennie (Jody) Underwood of Pryor, OK, and Randy (Mary) Hale of Richardson, TX. He is blessed with 16 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister Dorothy Hawkins and her children Jim (Tonia) Hawkins and Donna (Gary) Eubank as well as many cousins and extended family.
Bob is preceded in death by his parents, brother-in-law Roger Hawkins and good friend Wes Schoonover.
The memorial service for Bob was held on February 1, 2020 at Love Funeral Home in Limon, CO. Memorial donations can be made to the Lincoln Community Hospital or a charity of your choice.
