Sheila Banks

Obituary of Sheila Banks

Sheila Ann Banks was born July 17, 1942 in Beaver, Oklahoma to Virgil D. and Jessie Mae (Reagan) Devers, and passed away on Tuesday November 27, 2018 at the Lincoln Community Care Center in Hugo, Colorado after a brief illness.

Sheila grew up on the family farm, 10 miles east of Perryton, Texas and graduated from Perryton High School in 1960.  While growing up on the farm, she learned to drive a tractor (without a cab) and a wheat truck during harvest.  As a young lady, she was part of 4-H, FHA, FTA, Pep Squad, office staff, Library, and El Sombrero Staff (high school newspaper.)  As a teenager, she was baptized at the First Baptist Church.  She was very crafty and learned to sew which was her passion for the rest of her life.  After high school, she went to work for the Ochiltree County Extension Office as a secretary.  In 1965, she moved to Colorado Springs, Colorado and went to work for Mountain View Electric Assoc. and then transferred to the Limon office in 1967.

After moving to Limon, she met Norman Banks and they were married January 12, 1969.  Along with her other hobbies which included watching classic westerns, she took up cake decorating and even taught a cake decorating class for a while.  She made many beautiful cakes for several years.  In 1977, she became a bookkeeper at Prairie View Nursing Home in Limon.  And in 1981, they moved to Salida, Colorado after Norm took a job with the sale barn there.  While in Salida, she briefly worked for a nursing home there.  From there, they moved to Montrose where she went to work for San Juan Living Center.  They lived in the Montrose area until 1991 when they moved back to Limon.  While in Montrose, they adopted an infant son, Richard.

In 1995, Sheila started working at Lincoln Community Hospital and in 1998 became Associate Administrator, and was there until 2010 when she retired.  It was there when a coworker introduced her to Swedish Weaving.  She made blankets for most all of her friends and family.  At her passing, she was working on her 105th blanket.  She will be deeply missed by all.

Sheila is survived by her son Richard Banks of Ft. Worth, Texas; siblings, John Devers of Jourdanton, Texas, Jessie (Larry) Meier of Limon, Colorado, Karen Taylor of Clayton, New Mexico, and Mike (Roxie) Devers of Hugo, Colorado; Sister-in-law Margaret (Keith) Beattie of Rocky Ford, Colorado; Nieces and Nephews, Katie (Tommy) Davis, Lacreata (Steve) Mease, Larry Don (Lori) Meier, Richard Meier, Johnette Dixon, Lissa (Alvin) Foulds, Sherri (Raul) Ytuarte, Todd Devers, Marcy (Kurt) Brossman, Sharon (Tim) Turpin, Caron (Gary) Burke, Carie (Richard) Hagen, Steve (Nancy) Banks, Beau (Chavon) Meston; and many great and great-great nieces and nephews.
