Obituary of Darrell McCaffrey
Darrell H. McCaffrey 77 of Vona passed from this life to be with the Lord on Tuesday, January 30, 2007 at the Hillcrest Care Center in Wray. On October 1, 2006 he had suffered from a stroke and never fully recovered.
Darrell was born October 18, 1929 at Otis, Colorado to Francis W. and Alberta (Preyer) McCaffrey, the second child of five boys. In March 1936 at 71/2 years old his mother died. Then in 1940 Darrellâs dad remarried and the family moved to a farm 101/2 miles north of Vona. His new mother, Hazel and her daughter Neva gave the 5 boys a sister.
He accepted the Lord as his Savior when he was young and became a member of the Vona Baptist Church.
He graduated from Vona High School in 1949. In 1951 he joined the National Guard and in July of 1953 enlisted in the Army during the Korean War.
On June 13, 1959 he married Pauline Boese Harrison in Vona at the Baptist Church. She had 2 little girls, Barbara and Peggy who had lost their daddy from cancer in 1956.
In December of 1960 Dareline Alberta was born and in 1962 Rhonda Reanee joined them.
Darrell is preceded in death by his parents and one granddaughter, Lori Grasser.
He is survived by his wife Pauline at their farm south of Vona, and four daughters, Barbara and Rich Grasser of Stratton, Colorado, Peggy and Mark Sands of Phoenix, Arizona, Dareline and Russ Malone of Vona, Colorado, Rhonda and Larry Shutte of Stratton, Colorado and seven grandchildren, Carol Grasser Trevino, Megan Sands, Cody and Kendal Malone, Deidra, Kyle and Mitchell Shutte. Darrell is also survived by four brothers; Francis and Neva McCaffrey of Burlington, Colorado, Wayne and Fern McCaffrey of Cope, Colorado, Kenneth and Ethel McCaffrey of Seibert, Colorado, and Robert and Mary McCaffrey also of Seibert, Colorado, and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, friends and neighbors.
Funeral services for Darrell were held on Tuesday, February 6, 2007 at 2:00 PM at the Vona Baptist Church with Pastors Danâl Hollis and Ben Jansen officiating. Burial will follow in the New Friedensburg Mennonite Cemetery south of Vona, Colorado.
Memorial may be made in Darrellâs name and may be left at the First National Bank, Stratton or Seibert, Colorado.
