Obituary of Dorothy Covington
Dorothy Elizabeth Covington passed away March 9, 2007 surrounded by family and friends. Born to Charles Harry Stramp and Laura Steichen Stramp on December 16, 1920, in Genoa, Colorado, Dorothy lived on the Green Valley Ranch two miles south of Genoa from age one until moving to Hugo in 1999. She graduated valedictorian of the Genoa High School class of 1938.
Dorothy and Aaron Samuel (Sam) Covington, Jr. were married in 1947. To this union were born two children. They continued to farm, sell insurance, and be very active in the community. Dorothy and Sam were actively involved for many years in the Lincoln County Farm Bureau. She was a life member of the Genoa United Methodist Church, serving as its treasurer for many years, and enjoying creating items for the church bazaars. She was a sixty plus year member of the American Legion Auxiliary of Post 31 and of the Family and Community Education Clubs of Lincoln County. Working with youth to develop their leadership and life skills, Dorothy was a 4-H leader who positively influenced the lives of many young people. Dorothy especially enjoyed sewing, reading poetry, and nurturing friendships. She was a generous woman who graciously gave of her time and resources to help others.
Preceding Dorothy in death were her parents, her sisters Mary Margaret Stramp and Naomi Leila Stramp, her husband, Sam, and her step-mother, Mary Burrous Stramp.
Survivors include her children Laurel Lee Kubin and her husband Frank of Windsor, CO, and James Russell Covington and his wife Rhonda of Hugo, CO and their daughters Tara Patrice Nichols and her husband Matt, of Longmont, CO and Ashley Elizabeth Covington, of Chicago, Ill. Also surviving are sisters-in-law Margaret Barnard of Los Angeles, CA; Vivienne Moldenhauer of Genoa, CO; Lorraine and husband Vernon Nall of Florence, AZ; brother-in-law Russell and wife Elaine Covington of Limon, CO; step sister Judith and husband Freddie Williams of Buffalo, WY; step brother Raymond Burrous; numerous nieces and nephews. Dorothy was always very proud of the accomplishments of her children, their spouses, and grandchildren, giving them constant encouragement, love, and support. Numerous friends and other family members also remain among the earthly angels who graced Dorothyâs life.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, March 13, 2007 at 10:30 a.m. at the Genoa United Methodist Church in Genoa, Colorado with Rev. Olga Hard officiating. Burial will follow next to her husband in the Evergreen Cemetery in Hugo, Colorado.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, March 12, 2007 at the Love Funeral Home in Limon, CO.
