Obituary of Leonard Johnson, Sr
Lifelong Burlington, Colorado resident Leonard Willis Johnson, Sr. passed away on May 9, 2010 at Penrose Main Hospital in Colorado Springs, Colorado. He was 79 years old.
Leonard was born on May 25, 1930 in Idalia, Colorado to Frank R. and Olive E. (Walters) Johnson. He was one of six children. He grew up and attended school in the Burlington area, graduating from Burlington High School in 1948.
On November 16, 1949, Leonard married Bertha M. Balanga at the St. Charles Catholic Church in Stratton, Colorado. To this union, three children were born; Nancy, Leonard Jr., and Susan.
Leonard owned and operated Burlington Foods Grocery Store for many years. He was also a lifetime member of the Moose Lodge, a former Rotarian and member of the Burlington Chamber of Commerce.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his son J.R., a son-in-law Craig Pottorff, sister Vera Walters, and two brothers Kenneth and Arthur Johnson.
He is survived by his wife Bertha of the home, two daughters Nancy Gramoll and her husband Lynn of Colorado Springs, Colorado and Susan Pottorff of Burlignton, Colorado. He is also survived by seven grandchildren; Brian Gramoll, Jessica Johnson, Kasey Pottorff, Jeremiah Gramoll, Michael Pottorff, Leonard Johnson III and Shannen Pottorff; as well as six great grandchildren; Gavin Fauson, Addison Banner, Emma Camp, Annika Way, Michaela Jo Pottorff and Cain Gramoll.
