Obituary of Faye Bryner
Faye Lola Alexander was born in Unadella, Nebraska, on July 30, 1916, and passed away peacefully at Grace Manor Care Center in Burlington, Colorado, on June 23 at 10 am, just short of her 94th birthday. She was the daughter of John W. and Theodora (DuBois) Alexander. The family moved from Nebraska to Burlington in 1921.
Faye graduated from Burlington High School in 1934. She played the piano, sang in the church choir, played tennis, and was on the high school girls basketball team. She attended the University of Colorado-Boulder and the University of Northern Colorado-Greeley where she graduated with a degree in elementary education.
She married John Bryner in 1943 and they lived their entire married life of 61 years in Burlington. They had one daughter, Beth Ellen in 1947. Faye taught in the Smokey Hill School for one year and in the Burlington Elementary School for 31 years. She was an active member of the Burlington United Methodist Church and belonged to many professional and social organizations during her lifetime in Burlington. Her love of teaching and years of service to children made her a well known member of the community. After her retirement in 1977, Faye and her husband John Bryner traveled to Europe, Mexico, and all fifty states. She loved to go for rides in the car, spending time with her grandchildren, and enjoyed playing bridge. She will be remembered for her generous loving heart, wonderful cherry pies, fried chicken, potato salad, biscuits and gravy, cinnamon rolls, and her crocheted bookworms.
Faye was preceded in death by her parents, sister Esther Scott, son-in-law Dr. Bruce Leusden, and husband John. She is survived by her daughter Beth Leusden, granddaughter Amber Leusden, grandson Dr. Jonathan (Faith and son Samuel) Leusden, and an expected great-grandchild in early November 2010 as well as a host of friends.
