Obituary of Eva Faughnan
Orley and Bess Crouch welcomed their precious daughter, Eva on April 4, 1924 in Elbert, Colorado. The family soon moved from the ranch south of Elbert to Kiowa where she spent most of her childhood. Eva attended Kiowa Schools, graduating in 1942. Later that year, she married Samuel Beaman at the Kiowa Presbyterian Church where she was a member. Samuel and Eva moved to Winslow, Arizona. On March 7, 1943 they welcomed their son, Donald Wayne. Eva and Samuel later divorced. Eva and her son, Don, moved back to Kiowa, Colorado. On March 14, 1947 Eva married John Hugh Faughnan (Hugh). Hugh also brought a son, Pat Faughnan, to the new family. After Eva and Hugh honeymooned in Colorado Springs at the Antlers Hotel, the new family settled on a ranch north of Elbert. Two more children were born to Eva and Hugh, Susan Diane on May 26, 1954 and James Lee on April 29, 1960. In 1956, the entire family moved to their last ranch southwest of Elbert.
Eva was a loving mother and hard working ranch wife, laboring alongside Hugh on the ranch and in the fields. She was a good cook and an excellent homemaker. She took every opportunity to enthusiastically support Don, Pat, Sue and Jim in all the activities. Each of her children brought her many joys and pride. In addition to being a wife and mother, Eva held various jobs during her life. She worked at the Elbert Post Office; as a bookkeeper for a Standard Oil Distributor; as a telephone operator in Kiowa; she was a waitress in cafes in Elbert and Kiowa and she worked for the Elbert County Assessors Office.
Eva gave generously of her time and talents to her church and community. She was an active member in the Elbert and Kiowa Presbyterian Ladies Aides; the Kiowa and Elbert Presbyterian church choirs; the Kiowa American Legion Auxiliary; the Elbert Womens Club; the Elbert County Republicans and was an Elbert Creekside Boosters 4-H Club Leader for many years. She also gave 16 years of dedicated service to the Elbert School Board.
Eva passed away peacefully on July 21, 2010 at the Good Samaritan Care Center in Simla, Colorado. She was preceded in death by her parents Bess and Orley Couch and her loving husband of 56 years, Hugh.
Eva is survived by her children; Don Beaman and his wife, Edna of Calhan, Colorado; Pat Faughnan of Colorado Springs, Colorado; Sue McClain and her husband, Robert of Kiowa, Colorado and Jim Faughnan and his wife, Heidi of Elbert, Colorado. She is also survived by 14 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren and many friends.
