Obituary of Doris Kyle
Doris May (Freeman) Kyle was born May 20, 1929 in Bloom Township, Kansas to Ernest Slade and Chrystor May (Shufelberger) Freeman. She lived and attended schools in several towns in Kansas. She graduated from Ford High School in May 1947.
The fall of 1947 she went to Colorado Springs, CO to attend Bethel Nursing School; she graduated as a registered nurse in 1950. While in nursing school she met Marion Kyle. Doris and Marion were married December 26, 1950 in Dodge City, Kansas. They then came back to Flagler, Colorado to the Kyle family farm. To this union five children were born; Chrystine, Dan, Susan, Diane and Karen.
Doris enjoyed sewing, cooking, reading, square dancing, taking care of kitties and playing cards. She was a member of Gingham Girls, Dorcas Guild and several card clubs. She was a room mother several times for her children and helped with other school functions. Over the years she worked part-time at the Flagler Hospital and helped with public health screenings and vaccination clinics. In 1970 she began working for the Colorado Mental Health Association, she retired in 1987. Doris was a member of Zion Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday school and Vacation Bible School for many years. Doris found great joy in being a grandmother to Dallas, Paul, Justin, Joel, Kylie, Meghann and Alex, and great grandmother to Marli, Dallas and Trevor.
She was preceded in death by her parents and infant brother Gary and husband Marion in 2008 and two son-in-laws; Russ and Bob.
Doris is survived by her children; Chrys Kahl of Greeley, Colorado, Dan and Faye Kyle of Eunice, Missouri, Susan Hunt of Nunn, Colorado, Diane Miller of Ault, Colorado and Karen Kyle of Lake Havasu, Arizona, brother Gene and wife Jo, sister, Phyllis and husband Sonny, her seven grandchildren, three great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Doris moved to Greeley in February 2010 and enjoyed living near her three daughters. She enjoyed her time in Greeley Place Senior Housing. She became ill and after a stay in the hospital was moved to Garden Square Assisted Living where she passed away on December 28, 2010.
