I also had the good fortune to have Greg as a friend from the early 50's. Living 2 blocks apart we played alot together.Toy cars and trucks, bicycles then real trucks and cars and motorcycles. Rode horses (when we could catch them )All great memories of days gone by. I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers forever. Thanks again for your friendship and all the good times spent together..

Just now saw this sad news. Greg was older than I in school but he always seemed to look out for me and make me feel somewhat important at times. My Sympathies!

Memories, memories, mid-1950s? Greg and our oldest son David were childhood buddies in Simla. One Christmas, Santa brought David a miniature John Deere tractor (the pedal kind) from Bert Skaggs' J.D. dealership in Calhan. Greg also received a pedal tractor; his was an IHC from Cledys Moore's IHC dealership in Simla. Greg and David spent many a happy day on their miniature "tractors." Greg was always one of the nicest kids you would ever want to meet.

I feel so privileged to have grown up with Greg and to have called him a friend from w1st grade and beyond. All those years of racing around the countryside on bicycles and then cars just having fun like country boys do. He will be greatly missed but has left beyond great memories. I will miss you friend.

Lucky to know the McKims! - December 18, 11
Posted: December 18, 2011 | Last Revised: January 4, 2012
I am a native of Simla (yes! born in the little local hospital in 1954 in what is now the Good Samaritan nursing home...) and grew up just a block away from Park and Genny McKim as well as Dallas and Tiny Reed. These wonderful people along with so many others in Simla were like additional family to me. It was wonderful growing up in Simla; everyone was friendly and we grew up with great friends and became self-resourceful as far as filling our time (no rec centers or movie theaters there!!)-just freedom to be children and explore the town. KIds should be so lucky now.
Greg and my older brother David were similar age and attended the same class in school. They spent a lot of time as youngsters busy with various projects outside McKim's house which I found very interesting but soon was told were "no girls" things, building forts and roads for towns etc. This progressed to them taking off on bikes eventually and successfully evading the pesky sisters.
I have many fond memories of Greg and his parents. I was so sad to learn of Park's passing, and then Genny's just recently, and the Simla paper came too late to my house for me to arrange to return to Simla for the service. And now, Greg has died. When I was told I felt someone had knocked the wind out of me. All three from this family were dear to me, and even after my parents moved from Simla to Boulder County years ago, I held many fond memories of everyone from Simla. It is devastating that Greg has passed so young!!!! It grieves me to lose another piece of Simla that I can't get back. I hated seeing Dallas and Tiny go, and felt such shock and sadness when Laura Reed Lanckriet died several years ago. She and Merna were two of my best childhood buddies!!!
I don't know what to do other than ask God's special blessing on Greg and his parents and his surviving family. I'm sorry I don't know all of you very well.
This was a wonderful family to know, and they brought friendship and a welcome way to everyone they knew. How lucky I was to know them!
