Obituary of Rose Sorensen
Rose Janet Nordquist was born to Carl Ernest and Edith Julia (Benson) Nordquist in Flagler, Colorado, on May 20, 1945. She passed away at her home in Karval on April 15, 2012.
Rose graduated 8th grade from Wild Horse School in 1960 and from Kit Carson High School in 1964.
She married James Sorensen from Karval, Colorado, on August 31, 1964, and made Karval her home for life. Rose and Jim were blessed three times with children Tony Van, Kathy Sue, and Brian Paul.
Rose was a member of Karval Friendship Circle Club and was an avid Karval Trojan fan.
She moved to town in 1992 and took whole-heartedly to the task of making a cozy home for herself and cat Baby. Rose loved her yard and every season she was able, you would find her busying herself with flower chores and yard decorations.
Rose was confirmed in the Lutheran faith as a child and her final church home was Karval Fellowship Church pastored by Alan Carr.
Rose had suffered the effects of scleroderma for many years and had gradually lost her physical mobility and flexibility, but never her zest for life. She loved to dance and to cheer for her children and family. She is now dancing and clapping for joy in a restored body in her new heavenly home. Praise the Lord!
Rose is survived by her children and their families, Tony Sorensen and Melanie Newland, and Nathan, Brittany and Tori Newland; Kathy and Jack Pfost, and Taylor Russell, and Jace Pfost; and Brian Sorensen. She is also survived by Jim Sorensen; sister Beulah Kobert of Denver; her brother, Carl Nordquist and wife Gail of Webster, Wisconsin; Lloyd Nordquist of Kit Carson; Leslie Nordquist of Cheyenne Wells; and Charles Nordquist and wife Karen of Kit Carson; sister-in-law Barbara Obel; brother-in-law Norman Sorensen and wife Carolyn of La Junta; and sister-in-law Wendy Hilton and husband Jim of Karval; her nieces and nephews Robert Nordquist of Austin, Texas; Carrie and husband Mike Pickett of St. Petersburg, Russia; Lori and Scott Nyman of Kit Carson; Amy Nordquist and John Rathburn of Sedalia, Colorado; Julie and husband Michael Zimmerman of Haswell; John Nordquist of Kit Carson; and Edi Nordquist and Jeremiah Kalcevic of Deertrail; Denise Sorensen of North Carolina; Eric Hilton and wife Rebekah of La Junta; and Amy and husband Jeff Lee of Montrose, Colorado, and 19 great nieces and nephews.
Rose is preceded in death by her parents Ernie and Edith Nordquist, in-laws Ed and Bertha Sorensen, and a newly found and dearly loved brother, John Obel.
