Obituary of Annabel Taylor
Annabel (Cooper) Taylor, age 101 of Burlington, Colorado passed away Friday, June 15, 2012 at the Grace Manor Care Center in Burlington, Colorado with her daughter by her side. She was born April 22, 1911 in Kenton, Oklahoma, the daughter of Alexander and Sarah Jane (Denniston) Cooper. She grew up and went to schools in Kenton and Boise City, Oklahoma.
On February 12, 1931, in Springfield, Colorado, Annabel was united in marriage to Marvin Alfred Taylor. They shared over forty-one years of marriage before Marvin passed away on May 10, 1972. To this union they shared two children, Charles Dayton and Constance Jane.
Annabel was a ranchers wife for most of her life where she spent many long days of hard work helping Marvin on the ranch and caring for her children. This included, cattle, chickens, crops, orchard and a huge garden every year. Annabel knew hard work and she grew up during very tough times where there were no other options but to be tough. Growing up, she learned how to shoot a rifle to help put food on the table. There was not electricity on their ranch and she had to help pump water from the well every day. She was born before the first airplane flew and lived through seventeen presidents. She grew up during the great depression in the panhandle of Oklahoma which was very difficult but she also got to see the country recover as well. She got to see a lot change from prairie wagons settling west to the cell phones we carry today. She has many great stories of growing up in Oklahoma and settling on the southeastern plains of Colorado which has made her family and friends appreciate her hard work ethic, her toughness, and most of all, the love and care she gave. Annabels spirit will continue on in all of their daily lives forever
Annabel enjoyed reading, gardening, crocheting, sewing and crossword puzzles. She made many clothes for herself and her children and crocheted many doilies, table cloths and bed spreads for family and friends. She served the RSVP (Retired Senior Volunteer Program in Kit Carson and Lincoln Counties for 20 years, and spent many hours helping at the McArthur Senior Center in Burlington with various projects.
