Obituary of Alma Becker
Lifetime Kit Carson County resident Alma L. Becker passed away July 25, 2012 at the Good Samaritan care facility in Fort Collins, Colorado. She was 93 years old.
Alma was born on the Earl Bigelow homestead south of Vona, Colorado on January 15, 1919 to Earl and Elizabeth Bigelow. She was one of five children. Alma graduated from Vona High School in 1937. She accepted Jesus Christ as her personal saviour as a teenager while attending the Christian Church in Vona. Alma faithfully taught the primary age Sunday school class for many years at the New Friedensberg Mennonite Church south of Vona. John 3:16 was her favorite Bible verse.
Alma married Wilbert Becker on June 28, 1939 in Stratton, Colorado and to this union three children were born: Burleigh, Marvin, and Deanna. The couple made their home on two different farms south of Vona until they purchased the Andrew B. Becker homestead in 1950. Wilbert and Alma worked the farm together while raising their three children. They raised wheat, cattle, corn, feed crops, pigs, and of course chickens. Alma enjoyed her family and helping with the farm work, raising gardens, flowers, and canning fruits and vegetables. She also liked preparing food for family and guests. She liked to watch Shirley Temple movies. Red birds were her favorite bird and color. She collected state spoons, salt and pepper shakers and toothpick holders.
Alma was preceded in death by her husband, Wilbert in 2005, her parents Earl and Elizabeth Bigelow, her brother Floyd Bigelow and sisters Louise Dykes and Rosa Anna Tubbs.
Alma is survived by her sons Burleigh and his wife Sandy Becker of Littleton, CO, Marvin and his wife Cindy Becker of Greenwood Village, CO, and daughter Deanna (Dea) and her husband Curt Carroll of Fort Collins, CO; one brother Howard Bigelow and his wife Lona of Benton City, WA. and one brother-in law Gerald Tubbs of Colby, Kansas. She is also survived by 6 grandchildren,: Laurie, Stacey, Craig, Lance, Mike, and Brett; 15 great-grandchildren: Luke, Cameron, Ashleigh, Chase, Ryder, Claire, Jacob, Erin, Eli, Lawson, Morgan, Madelynn, Merrick, Shaunte,and Kyle and 1great-great grandchild Rosabella.
