Frieda Annette Stahlecker Schlichenmayer was born to Isaiah and Marie (Stutz) Stahlecker on May 26, 1918, in the German Settlement, north of Bethune, Colorado, and went home to be with the Lord on November 2, 2012 at the age of 94 years.
Frieda was baptized as an infant in the first small frame Congregational Church, by her uncle, Reverend Karl Haemmelmann, and his wife Minne, Friedas Godmother, was holding her. She was schooled at the one room country school at Prairie View through the 8th grade.
When Frieda was 12 years old, she was given a New Testament by her school teacher for not missing a day of school or being late. On May 15, 1932, Frieda was confirmed in the new brick church, which was built in 1927. Frieda was a member of the Original Ladies Aid and also was a Sunday School pianist for 30 years, and also sang in the church choir. Frieda and her sister, Pauline, sang duets at the church, with Frieda playing the guitar. She was picked to be Mary in the Christmas pageants growing up.
Frieda was married to Harold Schlichenmayer, her lifes companion for 43 years, on February 1, 1941. To this union, three daughters were born; Alice, Carol and Debbie.
After their marriage, she lived in Parker and Denver, CO, with her husband working for $1.00 per day, and Frieda worked miles from her husband cutting alfalfa with a team of horses and mower. She also milked 15 cows twice a day and cooked for extra people. They then moved back to a farm in the settlement. In 1951, the family moved to Burlington, where Frieda resided until her death.
Frieda was in the restaurant business for a lot of years, starting with the Chat N Chew, worked at Safeway, and had her own New and Used store for 18 years, which was very successful.
Frieda liked to bowl, and had a 168 average. She also grew flowers, had a doll collection, and crocheted afghans until she was 91 years old.
