Obituary of Allen Meinzer
Allen Roland Meinzer, 51, was born in Colorado Springs on December 15, 1960. He passed away peacefully at his home south of Rush, Colorado, on Thursday, November 29, 2012. Allen was the youngest of five children born to Roland and Adeline (Kravig) Meinzer.
He was a talented three-sport athlete in high school, excelling in football, basketball, and baseball. Allen graduated from Miami-Yoder High School in 1979. After graduating, Allen was employed in the sheet metal trade by various companies in Colorado Springs and he also worked for a Colorado Springs glass company. But his greatest love was ranching and Allen returned to the family ranch south of Rush, where he raised Hereford and black Angus-cross cattle. He also was a field representative for various banks in Limon and Calhan.
On Feb. 12, 1983, Allen married the love of his life and high school sweetheart, Rose Adams.
Together they made their home on the ranch. Later, their lives would be enriched even more when they adopted daughters Amy Renee, born on Feb. 9, 1990, and Jodie Lynn, born on July 25, 1996.
Allen loved hunting, fishing, and shooting trap. But his pride and joy was watching Amy and Jodie participate in sporting events, from their peewee competition days right through their high school careers.
He was best known for his quick wit and practical jokes, from which no one was exempt. His dry sense of humor and one-line responses always left everyone laughing. Often, Allen didn't even have to say anything, but a simple glance or sly wink of his eye signaled that Allen was up to something. He made friends easily and he rarely forgot a face.
Allen was preceded in death by his parents; a brother-in-law, J. Robert Adams; and a nephew, Cory Joe Meinzer. He is survived by his wife, Rose, of the home; his daughter and son-in-law, Amy and Dan Webb of Ocean Springs, MS, and daughter Jodie of the home; one sister, Maryann (Roger) Whitney of Yoder; three brothers, Leroy (Roberta) Meinzer of Wakarusa, KS, Roger (Karen) Meinzer of Yoder, and Harold (Jean) Meinzer, also of Yoder; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Stan and Ila Adams of Rush; brothers- and sisters-in-law, Ross (Pam) Adams of Wisconsin, Derrick (Denita) Webster of Utah, Jim Adams (Tina Duran) of Colorado Springs; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
