Obituary of Thomas Kyle
Longtime Flagler, Colorado resident, Thomas Loyal Kyle passed away on December 24, 2012 at the Grace Manor Care Center in Burlington. He was 85 years old.
Tom was born to Loyal Alexander and Emma Louise (Riesberg) Kyle on the family farm north of Flagler, on July 13, 1927. He was one of eight children.
He worked on the family farm with his parents until he was inducted into the United States Army on October 15, 1951. He served in the Korean War until leaving the Army on July 14, 1953. At that time he went back to Flagler to work on the farm.
On July 17, 1955, Tom married Dolores Sophia Zielke at the Clapp Chapel in Flagler. They lived on the family farm until health issues forced them to retire and move to Burlington.
Tom was a member of the Flagler American Legion and was on the Flagler Co-op Board and attended the Zion Lutheran Church in Flagler with Dolores. Tom loved to play cards ! Some of his favorites were pitch, cribbage, and bridge. He taught all his nieces and nephews the fine art of playing rummy and tripoly a family favorite at Christmas time. In his later years Tom took up wood working. He made beautiful baskets, hot pads, paper towel holders and miniature carousels along with many other wood working projects. He would cut them out and put them together , Dolores would paint them and put all the finishing touches on. He also made Christmas trees and Christmas Wreaths out of baby food jars, Christmas lights and garland.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Dolores in January of 2012, an infant brother Robert Kyle, and five sisters; Mamie Huntzinger, Evelyn Taylor, Mildred Kuemmerlin, Lois Horseman and Imogene Elrick.
He is survived by his sister Kay Daniel of Burlington, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
