Obituary of Gilbert Reynolds
Gilbert Darrell Reynolds passed away peacefully on December 27, 2012 at his home with his wife Nancy at his side. Gib was born November 12, 1937 in Reed, Oklahoma. He was the middle of 3 children born to Gilbert and Jewell Reynolds.
Gib was raised on a small farm outside of Mangum, Oklahoma. His family eventually moved into town where the family bought a mattress company where Gib worked until graduation. After high school, Gib mined in the uranium mines in Moab, Utah for a short time until the explosion. Then he decided to go back to Mangum, where he met a young man named Jim Witt, who was in the wheat cutting business. Jim needed help and Gib signed on and they moved onto Flagler, which Gib loved (and became his future home). After that harvest season, Gib befriended Bob Fritzler. Gib and Bob wanted to see the world beyond Colorado so they enlisted in the Navy in 1959. Gib was appointed Sonar Man Second Class Petty Officer. He was stationed in Long Beach, California and traveled the world through the Pacific Ocean. Upon being honorably discharged after 4 years from the Navy, he met a young lady named Nancy Christensen, whom he later married.
In 1964, Gib and Nancy moved to Flagler. They had three children, Victor, David and Nancy Gail. Gib worked as a farmhand until in 1969, he began his own business in wholesale dry goods. In 1976, he became a partner of an antique auto restoration business with Dean Stevens until 1981. Gib went back to work for Jim Witt for the next 4 years. After that, Gib worked for the Flagler Equity Co-op until he retired in 2000.
In May 2008, Gib and Nancy suffered the devastating loss of their beautiful daughter Nancy Gail, who died of complications of Addison's Disease. His sorrow continued until he joined her in Heaven.
Gib's favorite past time was golf. When the Mossland Memorial Golf Course came to town, life was grand for Gib! Golfing with friends was a favorite thing. Everyone enjoyed his dry sense of humor and he always got the last word. He also enjoyed fishing and gardening (growing those southern favorites he grew up with-okra, squash and black-eyed peas.) He played high school baseball. He was an avid Bronco fan but more than that, loved watching his sons and grandsons play all sports. In doing so he wore out many tires driving to and from all those games. He liked going to auctions.
He spent many hours with friends: playing cards, playing pool, going to tractor pulls. In later years, Gib could be seen driving his scooter around town with his beloved campanion, Molly.
Gib is survived by his wife, Nancy; children, Victor James and David Michial Reynolds; grandchildren, Alex James and Gabriel Austin Nestor, Elizabeth Frances and James Gilbert Reynolds; sisters Wanda Sue Rutherford and Joyce Lee Autry; several nieces and nephews. Gib is preceded in death by his parents and daughter Nancy Gail.
