Obituary of Herman Fritzler
Herman Fred Fritzler, age 96, of Flagler, CO was born on December 2, 1916 to Fred G. Fritzler and Rosa(Young) Fritzler in Hooker, Oklahoma. He was united in marriage to Elizabeth Fiel on June 17, 1940. They celebrated their 67 wedding anniversary while she was in the Hugo Hospital prior to her death on
June 29, 2007. They had four children, Robert Herman, Winifred Irene and Joseph James. An infant daughter born/ died on August 10, 1950.
Herman attended country school at Hooker, Ok and completed the eighth grade. During the Dirty Thirties" Hermans family moved to California. Machinery and cattle were loaded onto a rail car and Herman rode in the car to feed and water the livestock. They spent about a year in California before returning to Oklahoma. For someone to ride in the rail car there had to be live animals, so in order for someone to be with their machinery they also brought back chickens so Herman could ride in the rail car to care for them. The family settled on a farm near Woodward, Oklahoma and Herman returned to Hooker and worked for Henry Witt. After their marriage Herman and Liz worked on the Witt farm until he purchased and rented land at Fargo, OK.
He always talked about moving to Colorado and looked at a farm near Haxtun, thinking the price was too high he continued farming in Oklahoma until a friend and neighbor, thinking he was joking about moving, showed him a newspaper advertisement for a farm at Flagler, CO. In early September, 1951 he moved his family to the farm he continued to work until he was 93 years of age and could no longer climb into the tractors and combines.
He planted the many trees that are on his farm and received the 1994 Colorado Wildlife Landowner of the Year award of which he was very proud.
