In my sons words, "Caleb was a stellar performer". Our son, Jake, is a Recon brother to Caleb. They went to free fall school together last year. We can't fathom the pain you're feeling right now. But, we can offer our most sincere sympathy and prayers. We respect and will remember your son, Caleb, even though we never had the opportunity to meet this outstanding, stellar young man.

Deepest regrets to the Medley family. Dude seriously gonna miss you. You were a special person. I loved picking on you about your cross fit, but you know it was all in love. Your vitality and energy were far above average. Knew you were special from the day I met you. Already miss you, and the times we cut up together and the conversations we had. You were special bro. You were here for a short time, but in that time you lived far more than those surpassing you in age. You'll never be forgotten my man. I send all of my love.

We have memories we cherish of our days in Kid's Church with the Medley kids. We are proud of Caleb and thankful that he chose to serve our county so we can be free. Caleb is a great guy. I know he is taking in Heaven with the same determination and excitement that he did here on earth. You are all in our prayers and we know that Caleb is in our future.

Diane and George, Nathan, Melanie, Josiah and Collen,
This poem is from a Marine's heart:
If I ever go to war Mom, please don't be afraid
There are some things I must do to keep the promises I made
I'm sure there will be some heartache, and I know that you'll cry tears,
But your son is a Marine now mom, there is nothing you should fear.
If I ever go to war Dad, I know that you'll be strong,
But you won't have to worry
Cause you taught me right from wrong.
You kept me firmly on the ground, yet still taught me how to fly,
Your son is a Marine now Dad, I love you OOrah, even if I die.
If I ever go to war Bro, There are some things I want to say,
You've always had my back, and I know it's my time to repay.
You'll always be my daybreak, through all of life's dark clouds.
Your brother is a Marine now,
Bro, I promise I'll make you proud.
If I ever go to war, Sis, don't you worry about me.
I always looked out for you, but I can't do that any more.
Cause I'm a big bro to all America.
I love you so much and you know that, Your brother is a Marine now, Sis, so wipe your eyes;
I'll be fine even if I die.
If I ever go to war my Friends,
We'll never be apart,
Though we may not meet again,
I'll hold you in my heart.
Remember all the times we had, Don't let your memories cease,
Your friend is a Marine, now Dear Friend, and I'll die to bring your peace.
And when I go to heaven, And see that pearly gate,
I'll gladly decline entrance, Then stand my post and wait.
I'm sorry Sir, I can't come in, I'm sort of in a bind,
You see I'm still a Marine Sir,
So I can't leave the rest
behind.

I am so sorry for your loss. I hadn't seen Caleb in years, but remember him and Collen as scrawny little kids hanging around the house when I'd come over to spend time with Melanie. Caleb,
Even though our paths crossed briefly at 1st Recon Bn, you left an impression upon me that will last a lifetime. I remember we first met during cold weather training in 2008. We flew into Colorado Springs, and I had the honor of meeting your mother and your dog, as she had driven to meet and greet us at the hotel. I also remember vividly the Crossfit work out of the day (wod) we did that night and the following weeks, as our bodies adjusted to the altitude from sea level. You just crushed those wod's and that's when I began to notice you were different, and of a higher caliber. I know that you were hurting during those wod's just like I was, however you never slowed down, you just punched right through. When you finished, there was no ridicule from you, only encouragement for me to push through and finish. As we set off for Keystone "The Sunshine State", you often voluntarily or sometimes involuntarily would be the designated driver for us sailors and marines on our nightly adventures. I also can recall like it was yesterday when you came down with what I thought was pneumonia, but turned out to be a chest cold right before our final exercise and you told me "Don't worry Doc I'll be fine". Well what I was worried about and what readers of this should know, is that Marines, especially ones like Caleb will keep going no matter what and it is up to us Corpsman to sometimes protect them from themselves. We were going into the middle of the Colorado wilderness for a week with no way out except by skiing. You finally got seen by a Doctor and cleared and we had a good time out there. Our last interaction was in May or June of that year, you were running along the trail that leads to mout town right behind Camp Margarita and I had just finished conducting TCCC training for some Marines. We talked for about 5 or 10 minutes and you wished me well on my endeavors, as I was EASing out of the Navy and thats the last interaction we had. All in all, I knew you for a very short time, and when I hear the news of your passing today I had to take a knee. Thanks for providing overwatch for the rest of us as we patrol through life, until we meet again in that hidesight in the sky. Fair wind and following seas. Aaaruuugah!

Caleb and I were in the same team together at 1st Recon. No matter how hard the task Caleb would always complete the mission. He was always someone you could trust and rely on. To be a Reconnaissance Marine, one must be strong physically, mentally tough, and fearless. Caleb surpassed this, he was the epitome of a Recon man. When we got into engagements with the enemy, you would find Caleb running to the sound of the enemy fire. He was always determined and would never let his brothers down. He would sacrifice his own personal comfort to complete the mission. Caleb is a true warrior, a protector of liberty and our way of life. He never let his brothers down. During a 9 day training exercise, we had to extract with a causality. When the rest of the Men in the team were tired and exhausted Caleb threw the casualty on his shoulders and pushed onward up the hill to the extract point. He will always be remembered in the recon teams and he will be an example for all Marines to emulate. May God bless you and your family and help you get through this difficult time. We will all miss him greatly and the recon community is weaker without him.

Diane,George,Nathan,Melanie,Josiah,and Colin,
To look at the pictures that everyone is posting of Caleb just amazes me. I remember about twenty years ago... Caleb was a small, tiny young boy. He had to have been about 6 or 7 years old. He used to fight with Nathan, because they were brothers and he could :), and would punch him and yell at him. Nathan would say to Caleb that you can't hurt me...your too little. Caleb's response would be "you just wait, I will grow up and be able to beat you up". Well he did...he grew into a handsome, young, Marine. Even though he was only a youngster his heart was made of gold!!! I remember him being a mommas boy and would just look at Diane with a sparkle in his eye. I didn't know Caleb when he got older, but I am sure he surpassed all of his hopes and dreams. May God bless you, the family, and hold the memories of him close to your heart. My prayers are with you....So sorry for your loss.

A True Patriot! - March 1, 2013
Posted: March 1, 2013 | Last Revised: March 1, 2013
Diane, George, Nathan, Melanie, Josiah and Colin:
Remembering the time two years ago when I was able to visit with Caleb while he was home. He had a passion for this great country he dutifully served and ultimately died for. Caleb was anxiously awaiting the day of his return to Camp Pendelton. He specifically told me he was born to be a Marine, it was in his blood, he knew it, lived it and breathed it every day! You raised a true Patriot. For that we thank him and now you.
Deuteronomy 33:27 says "The Eternal God is our refuge and underneath are the everlasting arms".
We grieve with you in this earthly separation, but have assurance through Christ and rejoice with you that the arms that now hold your precious son will be the most comforting he has ever known. We praise Jesus that those arms will keep Caleb safe, until you can hold him in your arms once again.
With our love and deepest sympathy,
Gary, Lynette, Kyle, Kameron, Kollin, Preston and Kiri
