Obituary of Lori Pelton
Lori Lynn (Mosbarger) Pelton passed away on Tuesday, April 2, 2013, at her home in Byers, Colorado. She was born July 16, 1961 in Denver, Colorado to Cliff and Kaye Mosbarger. Lori began attending school in Aurora, then later in Leadville. The family moved back to Byers where she continued her schooling. Throughout high school, Lori was involved in several activities and clubs, including band, pom pom and FBLA (Future Business Leaders of America). She was also a contestant for the Miss United Teenager in 1979. Through the FBLA she took on a work study position at the ASCS/FSA office in Byers. She joined the staff as a full time employee shortly after graduating high school in 1979 as salutatorian of their class.
Lori married Bruce Pelton on April 11, 1980. She took time off from work to raise their sons, Casey, born on July 21, 1980 and Corey, born on December 8, 1982. She stayed home with the boys until they were school age and returned back to work at the FSA office. With only a few changes over the years, working at the FSA office was where she spent the rest of her career. After her sons were graduated from college, Lori decided to pursue her degree, working very hard taking online classes, finishing with a Bachelor's Degree in Organizational Security and Management from the University of Phoenix.
Lori was a very involved member of the Byers community, taking great pride in her home and doing anything she could to preserve its annual traditions and celebrations. Lori was on the school board, serving on the board as a member, and also as president. She served from 1987 to 1989, then later from 1997 to 2005. Lori's faith was very strong and she found great enjoyment with her involvement with the Byers Community Church. She was the Sunday School Director, planning activities and teaching Sunday school classes. She worked with the Kingdom Singers and was an Installed Church Elder. Lori was also part of a group of church members who selected ministers to bring to the community.
Lori was always in attendance with any sporting event or activity her family was involved in. She never missed a game for Casey and Corey while they were in school in Byers, then later for Casey while in college, and continued to watch the activities for her older granddaughter, Allie. She also made sure to support Casey through his coaching by attending his games. When the boys were younger, Lori coached youth bowling.
Lori enjoyed several hobbies and crafts, including crocheting, cake decorating and baking, specializing in her chocolate and butterscotch pies. She also liked scrapbooking, stamping and ceramics and spent her time being creative with home decorating. She collected angels and frogs, and anyone that knew Lori well would know that finding her a unique little frog would have the perfect home.
For Lori, family always came first. She showed strength that is one of a kind, and never hesitated to make sure everyone's needs were met before her own. Her love for her family was seen through her actions and heard in her voice. Lori was happiest when spending time with her family, no matter what the occasion. Her granddaughters Allie Paige and Andie Lynn were so special to her. Lori saw them often, making sure to shower them with love and spoil them with gifts. She loved to play with the girls, read books, cuddle and be silly. Lori especially enjoyed shopping for them, always able to find something that she knew they would love. Lori is preceded in death by her grandparents, Leroy and Ella Mosbarger, and her grandfather, Keith Gerstenberger.
She is survived by her husband, Bruce Pelton, her sons Casey and Corey, Casey's wife Jaclyn and their daughters Allie Paige and Andie Lynn, her parents, Cliff and Kaye Mosbarger, her brother Bart Mosbarger, her grandmother Louise Gerstenberger, as well as very special aunts, uncles and cousins. Lori was loved more than she will ever know and will be missed by many family and friends.
