Obituary of Dorothy Tanner
Longtime Vona, Colorado resident Dorothy Lillis Tanner passed away on Thursday, April 11, 2013 at the Grace Manor Care Center in Burlington. She was 94 years old.
Dorothy was born in Decatur, Illinois on September 13, 1918 to James O. and Fanny Marie (Jones) Wright. Dorothy graduated from Decatur High School in 1936.
On March 13, 1943, Dorothy married Leslie Karl Tanner in San Francisco, California in the Baptist Church. To this union, four children were born; Linda, Dan, Nora and Lorraine.
Dorothy spent her life as a homemaker and helping her husband with work around the farm. She enjoyed entertaining, cooking, sewing, and singing. She also worked as an aide in the reading program at Hi-Plains for approximately 18 years. She taught Sunday School for years at the Vona Baptist Church, and was involved in the music ministry of the church.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Leslie, two sisters; JoAnne Meents and Janice Henson, and two brothers; James Wright and Michael Wright, as well as a great grandson Tanner Salyer.
She is survived by her children; Linda Mowery of Vona, CO; Dan Tanner and his wife Helynn of Canon City, CO; Nora Hubbell and her husband Jim of Vona, CO; and Lorraine McCullough and her husband Mike of Vona, CO. She is also survived by seven grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren, sister Betty Perkiser of Searcy, AR; brothers-in-law Bill Meents of Kankakee, Il and Harold Pickard and his wife Nola of Burlington, CO; and sisters-in-law Margaret Tanner of La Junta, CO, Bonnie Wright of TN, Dawn Wright of South Dakota and Phyllis Wright of WA; as well numerous nieces, nephews and a host of friends.
