Obituary of Edna Murphy
Edna Louella Murphy, 89, of Hugo, Colorado passed away on May 21, 2013 in Aurora, Colorado.
Edna was born on December 26, 1923 on the family farm south of Matheson, Colorado to Stanbert and Sylvia (Smith) Clay, she was one of six children. She grew up in the Matheson area attending the local school.
She married Mike Manyik and to this union three children were born, Eddie, Richard and Sherron this union later dissolved. While living in California Edna met Roy Murphy and they were married in August of 1966 in Torrance, California. Roy worked on road construction and they established home in a small trailer traveling from job to job. Whenever they found themselves living close to a stream or lake you could always find Edna enjoying her love to fish. After some time, Roy left his job with the road construction and they made their home South of Hugo, Colorado where they enjoyed the simple pleasures of life.
Edna lived in the Limon and Hugo area where she took care of her family and worked at Colemans Meat Packing Plant. She was a hard worker, something that was instilled in her growing up during the Dust Bowl on the prairie of Colorado. She took great pride in raising her children; Richard and Sharon and making sure they had everything that they needed. She was a great cook and could make a meal out of very little but it always was served with love and laughter.
Edna played card games as soon as she was old enough to shuffle the cards and hold them in her hands. In their retirement years she and Roy would play pitch many Sunday afternoons and evenings with her brother, Bert and his wife Alice. You could count on many games of pitch and pegs-and-jokers at family gatherings. After Roy and Edna retired they enjoyed traveling to Wellton, Arizona for the winters. Many cherished friends were made on these trips and she couldnt wait for autumn when she could go back to Wellton to see them once again. She looked forward to working on jig saw puzzles, playing Bingo and pegs-and-jokers with her snow bird friends. She enjoyed traveling to see their six grandchildren which she spoiled and loved on. Edna truly did have a heart of gold and she was always happy to see neighbors and friends just to catch up on life.
Edna was preceded in death by her infant son, Eddie; her mother and father, her brothers, Ben, Norman and Walter and her sisters, Lilla, Flossie, Cleta and Frances.
