Obituary of Herman Schreivogel
Herman Oliver Schreivogel - June 13, 1941 - August 16, 2013.
Born to Herman and Jennie Schreivogel in Kit Carson, Colorado. Herman attended school in Kit Carson and graduated in 1959. After graduation he attended Regis College in Denver and then transferred to the Colorado State College of Education in Greeley (now University of Northern Colorado). He studied business with a major in accounting. He was a voracious reader and owned thousands of books.
Herman worked from an early age and his incredible ability to understand numbers lead him to his first job for Ancil Manufacturing in Ulysses, Kansas. He also worked for Hirschfeld Press, American Furniture Warehouse, and Jerry Roth Chevrolet. Anxious to leave the big-city life, he took a job with Keefe Memorial Hospital in Cheyenne Wells, Colorado. He had finally found his true calling in life and this lead him to Lincoln Community Hospital where he spent 18 years as CEO working until his health prevented it. During his tenure at Lincoln Community Hospital and Nursing Home, Herman won a number of prestigious awards, including the 2013 Rural Health Excellence Award from the Colorado Rural Health Association, which was presented to him at his bedside just four days before his death.
Herman was preceded in death by his grandparents and his father, Herman J. Schreivogel. He is survived by his mother, Jennie Schreivogel, his wife Maggie, his brother Steve (and wife Toni), his sister Cathy Bledsoe (and husband Bob); three nephews, Justin Vogel, Greg Bledsoe, Brian Bledsoe, and one niece, Tiffany Schreivogel Herron; and three great-nephews, McGwire Bledsoe, Kendrick Bledsoe, and Colton Herron, and one great-niece, Payton Herron.
Herman truly touched many lives and leaves a legacy in rural health care.
