Obituary of Glen Harvie
Glen Dale Harvie was born on April 14, 1922, the second child of Jacob O. and Augusta C. Harvie on his fathers homestead northwest of Cheyenne Wells, Colorado.
When Glen was seven years old, his father passed away, leaving his mother to raise her sons on the farm. As he grew, Glen became his mothers right hand man, and eventually took over the duties of the farm.
In 1955, at age 31, Glen met his future wife Mary Ortiz. The two married on June 3, 1956, and would remain committed to each other for the next 33 years. To this union were born six children, four boys and two girls. Glen was a true farmer/rancher at heart, raising cattle, pigs, and chickens and growing dry-land wheat. In his spare time Glen spent his time hunting and trapping. In fact, many a winter the family groceries were paid for from the profits he made selling the hides of the animals he trapped. In the late 1980s farming became difficult and Glen and Mary turned the farm over to son, Dean, and moved into Cheyenne Wells, Colorado. One of the most difficult obstacles was soon to be faced, when Mary was diagnosed with Cancer in the spring of 1991. He lost his beloved wife in December of 1991.
Glen continued to reside in Cheyenne Wells, hunting and trapping in his spare time, and working for the Cheyenne County Weed District.
In the spring of 1996 a breath of spring air entered his life when Priscilla E. Harvie, the widow of his late uncle came to visit. The two quickly became best friends and were united in marriage on May 11, 1996. They would remain committed to each other for the next 17 years, until Glens death.
Glen developed Alzheimers in 2008, and Priscilla, (Pat as she is known by her friends and family) became his sole care giver. Glen lost his battle with earthly life and went home to be with His Lord on September 10, 2013.
He was a lifelong member of Grace Lutheran Church in Cheyenne Wells, and knew that his home would be in Heaven someday.
He leaves to mourn, his loving wife and best friend, Priscilla E. Harvie; his children: Marcia Jean Ricke and husband Dave, Calvin Carl Harvie, Darrell Dean Harvie, Gregory Glen Harvie and wife Star, Lisa Lavonne Sramek and husband Kurt, and Jerald Jay Harvie and wife Heather; step-children, Luann Marie Duran and husband David, Kenneth Frances Lawrence, William Terry Lawrence, 24 grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren, his half-sister Grace Thaemert, many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Glen was proceeded in death by his first wife Mary, his brothers R. Jay Harvie, and Osborne Harvie, his half-brother Herman Sweeney, his half-sisters, Ida Hudson and Alice Wyatt, and one granddaughter Christina Raye Harvie. He will be sadly missed, but remember as a kind, loving, easy going husband, father and grandfather.
