Obituary of Kandi Davis
Kandi Suzanne (Carroll) Davis, 64, of Burlington, Colorado, went to be safe in the arms of her Savior and Lord, Jesus Christ in Heaven on October 3, 2013.
She was born in Burlington, Colorado, on April 23, 1949 to Arthur William and Verla (Blomberg) Carroll. She graduated from Cheyenne Wells High School in 1967. In the same year she was named the Cheyenne County Fair Queen. And, later became a student of Morgan Community College and received her certificate in Clerk/Bookkeeping on July 29, 1999 with honors including the Phi Theta Kappa Society. She was married on August 18, 1968 (45 years) to her high school sweetheart, Teddy Davis.
During Kandis childhood she participated in 4-H on the square dance team, and held offices in 4-H. They went to a lot of rodeos, which were similar to gymkhanas. They went on family trips to the mountains, camping, hunting, fishing and church camp.
Kandi was a hard worker. Places that had the pleasure of her presence as an employee were, Ben Franklin Store, Save-U Market as a cashier, R.E. and Miss Martha Josey Ranch of Karnack, Texas as a barrel racing instructor, Tupperware dealer, Spring Creek Fabrics, Producers Livestock as auction block clerk, helped Teddy with the farming and ranching on the Davis Farm, Prairie Pines Country Club as assistant manager and waited tables, owned and operated The Bakery, a dietitian at Kit Carson County Memorial Hospital, she logged many hours on the tractor and grain truck for Hartman Farms, while attending college classes at MCC she was the desk clerk at Super 8 at nights, Stratton Equity Coop as the fertilizer plant secretary, and last but not least her service of eleven years to the Bank of Burlington as the officers secretary.
She was a part of several organizations. Her mother helped her get involved in Daughters of the American Revolution. Her mother-in-law encouraged her to be a part of the Green Valley Home Demonstration Club. Golfing was something she did with her..not so extra time, winning the Sweet Sue in Goodland, KS was an exciting accomplishment for her. She thoroughly enjoyed being a part of 4-H leading for sewing, cooking, especially cake decorating for many years. She taught Rainbows, youth group and Sunday school in her church. A very involved mother/leader in Girl Scouts. In wanting to improve her health she was a member of Curves.
The kitchen was the place to find her, and especially the one in her new home, because it was big. She loved to cook, bake pies, making candy at Christmas time for gifts and bazaars, and cookies for the Bank of Burlington and Arrowhead Feed for their open houses. She put her heart into every decorated cake she created. You can find any recipe on her bookshelf in her cookbook collection. In fact, when she was growing up instead of finding her outside she would be in the kitchen perfecting her skills. Sewing was a honed skill making her prom dresses (one being after Jacqueline Kennedys inaugural ball gown) her very own wedding dress, brides maid dresses and many matching outfits for her girls and herself. Miles of thread went through her machines.
In 1971, Kandi accepted Christ one night while watching Billy Graham evangelize on TV. Earlier in her life she had a sprinkle baptism at the Cheyenne Wells Methodist Church and was immersion baptized at the Burlington Gospel Chapel on February 17, 1974. Her favorite Bible verse was Galations 3:13. She lived her life for Jesus with everyone she knew. Another of her favorite places was her prayer closet or prayer chair, she was a fervent prayer warrior, and had a very sister-closeness with her prayer groups. Many times when walking through the door of her home she would have her Bible out studying and taking notes, and of course sharing the Word with all who would
or even didnt want to listen. She was blessed with a heart to always make those she talked with encouraged and just feel good about themselves. She took several mission trips her first to Costa Rica, then Ouray, Colorado and Utah. Hi-Plains Rodeo Bible Camp was her pride and joy, even though it only came once a year, it was something she thought of and prepared for all year. It was in one of her favorite places, the kitchen, preparing food for the leaders and the students.
She had many momentous occasions. Some very special ones were the births of her grandchildren. She lived her life going to and supporting them in their many activities, and celebrating their accomplishments. And, most of all, she made sure they all knew about Jesus, Heaven and His love for them. She would spend special time with her mother playing scrabble and traveling with her. And, she enjoyed gatherings and traveling with her adult siblings and their spouses. She loved her chickens and truly believed she would have chickens in Heaven.
Kandi is survived by her husband, Teddy, her two daughters; Skipper Walters and husband Dennis, and Cristy Hartman and husband Jeff all of Stratton, Colorado. She is also survived by six grandchildren, Chadron and Oakley Walters, Preston, Daphne, Taylor and Trista Hartman. Also, her mother, Verla Carroll-Howard of Burlington, Colorado; brother Curt Carroll and wife Deanna of Fort Collins, Colorado; and Nanci Pratt and husband Rod of Scott City, Kansas. Along with many special nephews, nieces, cousins, aunts, uncles and in-laws.
She was preceded in death by her father, Arthur William Carroll, and Teddys parents Wayne and Lyla (James) Davis.
