Obituary of Margaret Vermillion
Margaret Mildred and her twin sister Madge, were born on March 21, 1919 to parents Reuben and Clara Ashcraft, south of Matheson, Colorado.
She attended Cheyenne Country School for 8 years, walking to and from school about 1 1/2 miles each way. At about age 16, she got her first job working for Walter and Velda Leyerle at the Kutch store and Post Office.
On January 10, 1942 she married Harris Lee Vermillion and in August he enlisted in the Army Air Forces. She followed him to several states and while he was stationed in Lincoln, Nebraska for Airplane Mechanic School, their daughter Virginia Lee was born. While stationed in Knob Noster, Missouri, where there was a shortage of base housing, the three of them lived with the Peterman family in their home, forming a life long friendship with their whole family.
In December of 1945 Harris was honorably discharged and they returned to the Vermillion family farm and ranch to join his parents Paul and Mae Vermillion and brother Jim and family.
In 1955 they left the farm to start a building business. The business grew and they formed H.L.Vermillion, Builders Supply and added a store and lumber yard, where she worked in the store and was the bookkeeper. Upon the death of Harris in 1973, Margaret continued operating the business, until she sold it and retired.
Having more time, she became more active in church work, keeping the church books and working with the children. She was active in community functions, school, and the Senior Center as well as keeping her house, yard and flowers.
About 5 years ago, she moved into the Village Assisted Living, (now Carla's North Campus) where she remained the rest of her life.
She had a great love for her family and friends and remained thankful to God throughout her life. She was particularly proud to be a great great grandmother.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband Harris, parents, twin sister, three brothers, Clarence, David, Perry, and sister in law Donna Ashcraft.
She is survived by her daughter, Ginger Lee (Chip) Goessling of Guadalupita, NM, grandson, Randy (Erin) Younger of Limon, granddaughter, Bobbi Lee (Rocky) Veach of Bethlehem, CT, great grandchildren, Rachel (Jordan) Adams and Amanda (Donny) Stretz, of Tulsa, OK, Jordan and Molli Veach of CT, Veronica, Cole and Brooke Younger of Limon, and great great grandchildren, Rockwell Adams and Macee Noelle Stretz, her sister June Hendricks, south of Limon, sister in laws, Lois and Nancy Ashcraft, and numerous nephews, nieces, and cousins.
