Biography
Ray A. Mosher, 92 of Boyero, Colorado passed away on August 7, 2014 Limon, Colorado at the loving home of Jason and Shirelle Bandy with family at his side.
Ray was born September 22, 1921 in Hugo, Colorado to Arthur Eugene and Neva Manilla (Mitchell) Mosher. He grew up in the Boyero area attending Hugo School through the 8th grade. Ray grew up in a large family, there were five children, and they all knew the value of hard work from dawn to dusk.
He and the boys hunted and trapped and sold the furs to help make ends meet during the depression. Ray and Don took care of the livestock and farmed while Art worked on the W.P.A.
Neva was ill and in and out of the hospital so much that Art raised the younger children more or less on his own. He was a good father. He lived on his homestead and kept the herd until his death at the age of 85.
Ray and Don saved some of their money from hunting and trapping and bought their first cattle, 5 heifers for $75.00. They both had large ranches in the Buffalo Basin area South of Hugo and their cow herds descended from those heifers.
Ray served in the army during WW2. He fought the Japanese in the Philippines. Ray received a Purple Heart for his service.
He married Mary (Fritzi) Sampson in 1951 in Colorado Springs, Colorado. They had four children, Sharon, Mike, Shirley, and Susie the family lived on the Ed Ward place South of Boyero which used to be part of the JOD ranch. Alan and Sherri Carr and family continue to operate the Ray Mosher ranch with the same love and dedication that Alan saw in Papa.
Ray loved ranching and loved to bronc ride. The fair was a very special time for him, he loved to visit with friends. He really enjoyed his grandchildren and great grandchildren. One of Rays favorite things to do was watch football especially the Denver Broncos so that he could cheer against the Broncos just to get a rise out of Gram. Every Fathers Day Ray would want to go fishing, one of the many activities that he enjoyed. Ray was very soft spoken and had a beautiful heart, he was a genuinely kind person.
