Shirley & Family,
In past years it was always good to see Shirley, Don, their small dog and I think on occasion even Shirley’s mom and my mom along with them at farm shows. Don was always doing his best to stay on top of the latest available farm equipment, methods and technologies.
I’m sure he is farming at a higher level now and probably operating a golden tractor.
Thoughts and prayers are with you all during the difficult days ahead without him here on earth. But we can all look forward to meeting again.
Sincerely,
Bill Westfahl, Cousin

I cannot put a date on the first time that I remember meeting Donny, Shirley and their girls. They were just always a part of my childhood memories of the annual Ashcraft family reunion. After the many hours spent in a car or camper from either Spokane Washington, Pocatello Idaho or Salt Lake City Utah, I could depend on their smiles and teasing as a sign of their love and acceptance of me. It always made the long drive worthwhile and I excitedly looked forward to being there despite the lengthy confinement in a vehicle.
I knew that I was always welcomed in their home. I could also depend on a phone call to keep me up to date on what was happening to family even though I lived so far away. Through the years, that connection with them extended to their daughters. You all are an important part of my life. I look forward to our continued association.

Don was the image of a good, honest, hardworking country boy who cared for his family and friends. When his brother Glen passed, Don did a wonderful job of organizing Glen's farm sale. He took pride in family, home, farming, equipment, etc. He will be missed but I am glad his suffering is over.

I remember going to Uncle Fred and Aunt Fern's as a child, and Donnie would let me play with his Lincoln Logs. Later as I was in high school, my friends and I would find the Sat. night dances and Donnie was always there. He was just enough older than me to make me feel like he was watching over me. Then he married my friend and classmate Shirley which kept us close. Sorry to see him go.
