Don was always larger than life and it’s hard to believe that he’s really gone. He fought long and hard and we admired his will to live despite the health issues that finally took their toll. That determination and drive took him far in life. You could see it in every aspect… his enduring love for Deb, his devotion to his kids, and his adoration for his beautiful granddaughters. And he never lacked for friends… he had a plethora, both old and new. Everyone loved Don and he loved everyone.
We will remember him as having a positive attitude, and being kind-spirited, light-hearted, fun-loving, a bit ornery and sometimes full if IT… (and IT usually involved mischief). He could be a prankster, and loved to make people laugh. His own laughter was contagious. He could snicker, giggle or belly laugh. He could tell stories or jokes that would make you laugh until your sides hurt.
He was generous and always willing to help out… even at a moment’s notice. And if you had something that needed fixed, Don was your man. If he didn’t know how to fix something, he’d ponder it until he figured it out. Nothing was beyond his “fix-it” expertise, thus earning him the earmark of “Mr. Fix It.” He was a skilled carpenter and could build about anything… be it a house, a porch deck, a set of bookshelves or an ornate birdhouse.
We mourn Don’s passing but are relieved that his suffering is over. We pray for healing, peace and closure for Deb, his family and all who loved him. He lived a good, full life and fought a gallant battle. We know that he’s been welcomed, with open arms, by those who’ve waited for him in Heaven. By now, he and Jason have most certainly gone fishing several times. He’s been “catching up” with friends and family that passed before him. He’s probably already consulted with St. Peter regarding any home repairs that might be needed. And you can bet that he’s got the angels laughing hysterically at some of his stories. Yes, Heaven is celebrating his arrival. We rejoice that he is pain free, restored, and at home in the heavenly realm. We remember him fondly and thank him for the joy that he brought to this earthly life. For now, we say, “so long Old Friend… we’ll see you sometime later.” What a glorious day that will be!!!
Sadly missed by Phil and Dian Werner... also Aubrey and Jordan Harmon (who called him "Uncle Don")

I remember Don and family as being the best neighbors I ever had. For several years we lived next door to each other, and to me it was like they were my kids. Don was so kind to always lend a hand whenever I needed it. I loved his sense of humor, and his kind and loving ways. He did his best to care for his family, and worked so hard at remodelling their home. He sure knew how to build things. He was a pillar of strength when he needed to be, and always ready to lend a helping hand to whoever needed it. Such a fun person to be around. He will be missed by all who loved him. Rest in peace now Don, Lord knows you deserve it.

Uncle Don,
You will be missed so much. To me, you will always be remembered as a kind, funny, badass uncle. I always loved hearing hunting stories from you and seeing pictures of that last really nice buck you got with Shalena. I remember eating fresh jerky that you made in Flagler when I was a kid. I know my siblings and I will have that "Carnation Milk" song implanted in our brains for the rest of our lives. I will make sure my kids know that song when they are old enough and who taught it to me. You were one of the toughest people I knew. I always think of you when I talk about "country tough". Just like grandpa Gustin. Rest easy Uncle Don. God Bless.
