Sorry for your loss. Rich will certainly be missed. I enjoyed visiting with him as we met in the street by our homes. We waived almost daily and visited frequently. My heart and prayers go out to each of his family as you celebrate his life and mourn his loss.

My memories of grandpa are many and are so varied from interacting as a small child up until phone calls including one the last one a few days before his last birthday where we talked for a good hour. Mostly we talked of his first car among others including his favorite the 1950 Dodge Roadster with a Hemingway and straight 6 Cylinder and overdrive that he paid $2800 for. He also told me his first car he paid $1000 for and he made a dollar an hour back then so he worked 1000 hours in order to save enough to buy it. I called and spoke to him the day before his birthday November 20, 2020 and he shared his first horses name was Lady at age 5 whom he used to ride to and from school. They called her old Lady. She was sold for $20. His horse Carrot Top was a thoroughbred quarter horse. His first paint horse was, Powder. He said she had big feet. She was bred with a quarter horse and she was a good mountain horse Whom someone borrowed. Slipper was a paint that was used for hunting. He told me he Hunter Sera cats for pelts and I had to ask him what these were because I had never heard of them but they are small animals like Skunk but smaller. He told me some great hunting stories of hunting with my grandmother, Frances, whom apparently dropped both an elk and deer to fulfill her tags one day before 8 AM. I remember being driven around town sitting in the back of the blue town car to and from church on Sunday’s, riding in his truck to his work by the Silos and going in where there was a candy machine that is you put money in and turned it the candies fell out. I remember staying at his house a lot growing up and he would come home for lunch and put his gum on the counter until he was done eating lunch and he’d pick it back up and continue chewing. I remember sharing popcorn out of the giant bowl of air popped popcorn he would sometimes have before dinner. I remember his love of mint and chocolate including together and how I love mint as much as he does. I remember him lifting me up to touch his deer he had mounted with its long antlers. He spoke of a trip to see the largest elk on record that had ever been shot was in Grand Junction and how he got to see it. He loved to go to the Rocky National Forrest in Estes Park every year and watch the elk take over the town laying on the lawn in front of municipal buildings and just meander through town. He knew how much I loved dogs and he and I both wanted to go to the Meeker Classic to see the working dogs and for years he would talk about him and I were going to go do that together. We never got to do that but it seemed to be very important to him that he and I go do that together and I had wished we had been able to make it happen. If anyone knew him you knew he could talk for hours. I remember as an adult calling him one Saturday and chatting for 4 hours. I don’t remember all the details of that conversation or every conversation, but what I do remember is how excited he was that I had called and was so excited to share. We often would talk about his farmhand jobs driving the grain truck back and forth during harvest, feeding cattle and fixing tractors which was probably his favorite. He loved looking at old tractors. He did tell me once how much he enjoyed working with my now passed cousin, Jeremiah, as he was a very hard working young man. He said even though he was young and also enjoyed his time off when he showed up to work, grandpa noticed he wasn’t like most young men and he worked hard and my grandpa noticed and respected that. Grandpa was at my college graduation in 1999 in La Junta, CO where it rained so much it flooded and we had to get on the road to get home before they closed the roads and I drove to the restaurant to tell them as he and Grandma Cherie had went there for the party. He always hugged me and told me “I love you girl.” He always told me how much he was proud of his kids and how he knew he loved his family. He also told me how much he loves Jesus. After Grandma Cherie passed away I saw a shift in him to being a softer hearted man where he was more emotional and you could tell when he spoke how much his family meant to him and how he wanted them to know that. I remember as a child the tire swing he made in the backyard I spent hours spinning in. He would take me to “the Nordic Restaurant” after church with grandma Cherie and Brenda to have French fries. As I began working in the pharmacy he would often ask me about medications which usually were for asthma. He trusted my insight and expertise and wanted to know what I knew about these medications. He also would ask me questions about health and diet as he knew I had a Dietetic degree and that is what I went to college for. I can still hear his voice and I have so many memories of my childhood into adulthood that include him. I spent a lot of time there growing up and even after as an adult. I love you so much grandpa and I am so thankful you are released from your suffering here on earth and went home to be with your savior even though we will miss you terribly on this earth. Until we meet in heaven. Your granddaughter,Stephanie
