John Kovar

Obituary of John A. Kovar

John Arthur Kovar, 71, a former resident of Colorado Springs and Arriba, CO passed away peacefully in the presence of his wife and daughter on January 5, 2022, at his residence in the Veterans Community Living Center at Fitzsimons in Aurora, CO. John was born February 5, 1950 to Jerome Dean and Priscilla (Beardsley) Kovar in Yankton, SD. John proudly and honorably served in the United States Air Force and continued to serve his fellow veterans after his retirement as a Commander of the American Legion Centennial Post 209, the Adjutant for the American Legion of Colorado, and volunteered with the Civil Air Patrol. Throughout his life, John had many hobbies including shooting trap, playing Craps and Blackjack, calling Bingo, finding and making deals, playing with his puppies, and establishing the “Mindbender” haunted house out of an old gymnasium in Arriba. John was an endearing, charismatic, and engaging man who deeply felt an obligation to give back for the blessings he had received. He was compelled to invest his time in people, whether it was helping family and friends or volunteering to worthy causes, he just wanted to encourage and inspire people to flourish. Whatever John did, he did it fully. John is survived by his wife of 27 years, Karen Kovar; his daughter Kelly Glover and her children Brayden and Bodie; his son Clayton Kovar and his children CJ and Natalie; his mom Phyllis Kovar; and his siblings Thomas Kovar, Catherine Kovar, and Deanna Jossiss. We were enriched with his company and are diminished by his loss. John will be missed.
