Obituary of Yvonne Gumb
Julia Yvonne Gumb of Cheyenne Wells, Colorado, passed away December 26, 2014
Yvonne was born October 14, 1926 in Independence, Kansas to Ervin Leo and Blanche Maria (Irwin) Kolb. She attended Mount Pearl school north of Carson and graduated from the Kit Carson High School class of 1944. Yvonne married Duane Kline May 1, 1945. To this union was born 3 children, Clayton LeRoy, Shirley Yvonne and Lorraine Kay. Duane passed away in Burwell, Nebraska, June 7, 1952. Yvonne married Clarence Dale Gumb on May 24, 1953 at the Gumb Ranch in Burwell, Nebraska.
Dale and Yvonne moved around to different ranches thru the Sand Hills of Nebraska where Dale worked as a hired hand. Yvonne had the knack of turning any dwelling into a homey place to live. When they moved to Cheyenne Wells, Yvonne would work summers as a clerk at the swimming pool so she could keep an eye on her 4 children. Over the years Yvonne worked at Thyne's IGA, as a Switchboard Operator for the Telephone Company, Dispatcher at the Sheriff's Office, and at People's Gas and was regarded by her employers as being an exemplary worker.
Throughout her children's activities Yvonne missed very few functions. With 3 boys playing sports it kept her busy moving from 1 event to another. Her home was always open to all of her children's friends. When she had grandchildren and great grandchildren she would to be in attendance as often as possible no matter where they lived and her home continued to be open to their friends as well.
Yvonne was a member of the Cheyenne Wells United Methodist Church where she was active with the United Methodist Women . Two of her favorite United Methodist Women's events were the Bazaar and the Ornament Exchange. She was also a member of the VFW Auxillary. Yvonne served on the board of the Cheyenne Manor Nursing Home as well as being a volunteer at the nursing home. Participating as a member of the Red Hat Club gave Yvonne great joy.
Yvonne loved entertaining people in her home, whether it was a sit down dinner with the table set with her pretty dishes or a peanut butter sandwich on a plate set on the card table as she was playing any number of card or board games with friends. Her beautiful yard, gardens and robust house plants reflected her green thumb. She could get almost anything to grow.
