Kathy Purdy

Obituary of Kathy Purdy

Mary Katherine Purdy was born in Virginia. She was raised in Virginia Beach. Her father, Clyde Warren, was career army through the years and was stationed all over the world. Kathy and her mother, Maude Warren, would sometimes join him as he was stationed abroad. With a degree from East Carolina University, Kathy became a special education teacher and took up teaching in North Carolina. She soon received Educator of the Year for North Carolina and was also president of the North Carolina Association of Educators at the time. She completed her master’s degree at University of Northern Colorado Greeley. Kathy had a passion for music that she celebrated all of her life. She seldom played in public, but she was an accomplished pianist. She would meet her husband, Mark Purdy, in St. Louis at a college conference for music. Kathy and Mark married and had their son Weston. Kathy profoundly supported Weston, as well as his classmates, through all their endeavors. She was always front and center to cheer, feed, drive, and love all who needed it. Kathy would spend her years raising her family while continuing to teach special education in Limon, Deer Trail, and would also teach in Agate. She was also involved in teaching Sunday school and bible school at the First Methodist Church in Limon. Kathy’s passion for teaching and children drove her in all she accomplished through life. She dedicated herself whole heartedly to her craft and would do anything she could to help the children she taught. Her devotion was often recognized and she was honored on many occasions, though she would have rather spent that time working with the kids. Kathy was preceded by her parents, Clyde and Maude Warren, and her brother, Arnold “Jim” Warren. She is survived by her husband, Mark Purdy, and her son, Weston Purdy. The service will be Saturday, March 20th at 11 AM at the First United Methodist Church in Limon. We ask that if possible, you donate to your local school district, after school programs, or any program that would benefit a child in need to honor Kathy.
