Obituary of Darrell D. Kirchoff
Darrell Dean Kirchoff , 84, passed away Tuesday, August 4, 2020 at his home on the farm north of Genoa that he operated for over fifty years.
Darrell was born on January, 19, 1936 in Emporia, Kansas to parents, Walter and Erma Kirchoff. He was the second of two sons. He attended grade school at the Twin Mound country school near his home until, at the age of 10, their family moved to farm in Colorado. Darrell graduated from Genoa High School in 1954 and attended Otero Jr. College in La Junta, Colorado where he majored in agriculture and excelled in basketball. Summers were spent playing baseball and it was said that he was a formidable pitcher.
While in La Junta, Darrell met Louise Johnson on a blind date and they were married in June 1957. Darrell and his new wife moved to the family farm where they raised three daughters, Amy, Susan, and Leanna. Darrell farmed and ranched for 55 years and was joined by son-in-law, Bill, in 1985 and in more recent years by grandson, Aaron.
Although a man of few words, Darrell had a strong, quiet faith. He was extremely proud of his family and all their accomplishments. He was always interested in knowing what they were doing and enjoyed when they stopped by to visit.
Darrell loved the simple country life and was most content on a tractor or walking across the pasture to check on a new calf. It was impossible for him to walk by a dog or cat without taking a minute or two to scratch them behind the ears and have a friendly chat. He loved a slow, gentle rain, a nap under his favorite tree and a big piece of pie and coffee.
Darrell is preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Erma, his brother, Ray, and a nephew, Ronald. He is survived by his wife, Louise; daughters, Amy (Bill) Head, Susan Kirchoff, Leanna (Chris) Frasier; his grandchildren, Aaron (Marlene) Head, Bethany (Nathan) Welp, Aubrey (Calvin) Loftis, Katie Frasier; his six great-grandchildren, Cayten and Ellison Head, Tate and Remy Welp, Breck and Porter Loftis. Also survived by nieces and nephews.
The family asks that memorial gifts be made to Lincoln Community Home Health and Hospice or the Genoa United Methodist Church.
