Obituary of Dorothy E. Nagel
Dorothy Elizabeth Nagel entered into her new life on March 24, 2020. Dorothy was born April 7, 1934. She passed away at the Good Samaritan Nursing Home due to congestive heart failure and other complications. She was the fifth child of ten born to Clayton Hiram Nickell and Letha Neoma nee Sutton, Nickell at the family farm 27 miles north of Limon, Colorado.
Dorothy attended grade school at Flat Top School. She went to high school at Woodrow, CO, Colorado Springs CO, Genoa, CO, and graduated from Washington High School, Kansas City, KS in 1952 with high honors in Bookkeeping.
Dorothy married Harold Dean Nagel (Windy) in April 1953. To this union two children were born, David Craig Nagel and Sherri Dawn Hansen nee Nagel.
The small family moved to Hugo, CO in 1960 where Dorothy and her younger brother, Jerry Nickell went into a partnership establishing the N&N Laundromat, the first laundromat in Hugo. The family then moved to Limon in 1963 when Harold obtained a position with the Port of Entry. Dorothy then was employed by the Limon Leader newspaper for several years. She then became employed at various grain and feed elevators. She was recognized as being one of the first women to manage a grain elevator using her skills as a broker. The destruction of the elevator caused by the tornado of 1990 closed this chapter of her life. Dorothy then became employed by the Lincoln County Assessor’s Office where she retired.
Dorothy was an avid bowler and was LCWBA Secretary for many years. Dorothy and Windy enjoyed going to Las Vegas, Cripple Creek, Greyhound races, fishing and vacations with the family.
Dorothy is survived by her two children, David Craig Nagel ( Cathy), and Sherri Dawn Hansen (Dennis), six grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, and six siblings. Three siblings and two grandchildren preceded her in death.
Dorothy was loved by her family and friends and is greatly missed.
Due to the Covid-19 limitations in March, a viewing and graveside service at Pershing Memorial Cemetery was held for family members. The memorial service will be held July 27 at 11:00 at the Love Funeral Home chapel. After this service a light lunch will be available at the Railroad Park (across the street from the service).
