Obituary of Nancy A. Hawker

Matheson Community Bible Church in Matheson will be hosting a celebration of the life of Nancy Hawker, who passed away last March. Due to the ongoing pandemic shutdowns this last year the family has been unable to have a memorial service until now. The celebration of her life will be on Saturday, April 10 at 11:00 a.m. Nancy Annelle (Coy) Hawker was born in Englewood, Colorado on June 21, 1942, to Robert T. and Pansy S. (Salisbury) Coy. She went home to be with the Lord on March 22, 2020. She married Charles Hawker on August 26, 1960; they had two sons, Charles David and Andrew Robert. Nancy worked as a nurse's aid at the hospital in Gunnison, Colorado, helping to put her husband through college. After they moved to Simla, Colorado, she organized a lunch program for senior citizens and later served as senior service coordinator for a number of years. She served on the Area Agency for Aging in east central Colorado and in 1970 on the governor's council for senior citizens. She also owned and operated a craft shop. Nancy enjoyed being a pastor's wife for some 46 years during which she also taught Sunday School most of those years. Nancy was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in 1964, but she never let it stop her. Nancy enjoyed writing, having written a column on crafting for the local newspaper as well as articles on the local library and the nursing home. She also wrote stories for Prairie Times, a regional newspaper. Her heart's desire had been to write a book to be published; she did the writing but did not get to see it published. Nancy was preceded in death by her parents. her sister and her son David. She is survived by her husband of 59 1/2 years and her son Andy, his wife Lisa, and granddaughters Chloe and Layla.
