Obituary of Larry Torline

Born February 18, 1940 to Lawrence J. and Mary J. Torline in Great Bend, Kansas. In his younger years the family spent time in Kansas, Oklahoma, and Texas before finally settling in Stratton, Colorado. Larry attended the St. Charles Catholic School through 8th grade and graduated from Stratton High School in 1958. He was the Senior Class President and lettered in football, basketball, baseball, and track. In September of 1958, he enlisted in the US Army, serving 3 years including posts in Fort Ord, CA and Stuttgart, Germany. Upon his discharge in September 1961, Larry returned home and married his high school sweetheart, Linda Marie Calvin, in February of 1962. After living and working in Denver for a short period, they returned to Stratton, CO in 1963. Larry began his career with the Colorado Department of Transportation’s Department of Engineering and continued to raise a family. In the fall of 1975, he was transferred to work on the 2nd bore of Eisenhower Tunnel, and moved the family to Lakewood, CO. Upon completion of the Eisenhower Tunnel in January 1980, he was assigned to the Aurora office supporting projects across Eastern Colorado. In February 1985, Linda passed away after 23 years of marriage. Larry met Martha G. Monks and they married in July of 1988. Larry retired from the Colorado Department of Transportation in 1995 after 32 years as a Project Engineer. Not ready to be fully retired, Larry enjoyed the next 8 years working for FEMA and URS Griner before fully retiring in 2003. In retirement, Larry enjoyed woodworking, reading, and attending the many activities of his grandchildren. Larry is survived by wife Martha; his sons Mike, Joe (Tania) and Greg (Kris); stepchildren Kim Juul (Ron), Steve Monks, Shelly Monks (Bob Alteri); grandchildren Julia Torline, Jakob Torline, Travis Torline, Kate Torline, Rheanna Melcher, Kerianne Short, Daleanna Skalsky, Jacob Juul; Great Grandchildren Mason Short, Paisley Skalsky. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Don, and his sister Helene Smelker. Larry will be dearly missed by his family and friends. Rest in Peace.
