Obituary of Gerald M. Smith

Gerald Melvin Smith (Smitty) was born on July 21, 1940 in Zanesville, Ohio to Benjamin and Edith Smith. Smitty passed away from pancreatic cancer on November 11, 2019 at Lincoln Community Hospital in Hugo, CO. Smitty had two sisters Eldene and Karen. He graduated high school in Colorado Springs, Colorado and went to college in Kansas City, Kansas. On March 23, 1968, he married Linda

R. Borden. With this union Smitty became the father of Susan Mcclendon (Borden), Jim Borden and Stacy Vick (Borden) and together they had three boys Shawn Smith and twins Jason and Justin Smith.

Smitty's greatest love outside of his family was driving a truck. He worked with several different companies over the years from hauling heavy equipment  to  hauling hay or grain.

Smitty is preceded in death by his parents, Benjamin and Edith and his wife Linda. He is survived by his two sisters Eldene Mosbarger (Brent) and Karen Adamscheck (Jerry) both of Colorado Springs, CO. He leaves behind his children Susan Mcclendon of Hugo, CO, Jim Borden (Donna) of Parker, CO, Stacy Vick (Tony) of Hugo, CO, Shawn Smith (Anita) of Arriba, CO, Jason Smith (Gretchen) of Hugo, CO, Justin Smith (Wendy)of Weskan, KS, eleven grandchildren and one great grandchild as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Per Gerald's request, cremation and a private graveside service.  Celebration of life will be November 30, 2019 at 1:00pm at Hugo Depo.
