Margaret Mikita

Obituary of Margaret Mikita

Margaret (Murin) Mikita was born May 14, 1923 on her parents farm north of Ramah Colorado. Her parents were John and Sophia (Oleska) Murin.

She died at her daughter's home north of Calhan Colorado November 2, 2019.

She grew up working on the farm with horses, no electricity, and having to haul water from a spring in barrels to their house which was about ¼ of a mile away. No wonder she was such a strong lady!

She married Mike Mikita Jr. in 1940. To this union two daughters were born, Roberta and Linda.

Mike and Margie bought their farm from his mother in 1949-50. They worked the land side by side, but often one of them would get jobs off the farm to help make ends meet. In 1954 Margie was approached by the Ramah school board if she would be willing to set up and run a hot lunch program for the school. She did this for 3 years. Then Mike found work with Trojanovich excavating and Margie returned to farming full time. In later years when Mike retired from working for the county road department Margie once again started cooking. This time for 10 years at the Calhan School. And then she flipped burgers at the Calhan Sale Barn until after her 80th Birthday! She finally retired from working outside of home and did

her flower and small vegetable gardens. She loved to crochet and embroider for hobbies, and of course to cook and bake wonderful tea rings and many more things.

Margie was baptized into the Orthodox faith as an infant at the Nativity Orthodox Church north of Ramah and was a member there until her marriage. She was very strong in her love of God, Jesus and the church. She was a member of St. Mary's church in Calhan for 79 years.

She is survived by her daughter Roberta Cline of Pueblo, Linda (Ben) Hendrix of Calhan. Granddaughters Michelle (Tom) Flesher, Mardell (Charlie) Di Dominico, Lorene (Kenny) Denson, and Grandson Bill (Colleen) Hendrix. Great grandchildren, Mikaela Kuenhold, Rachel Chantalla, Whitney Simpson, Joshua Tunink, Trevor, Mason, and Malachi Hendrix. Great-great grandchildren, Ryleigh Tunink, Leila Tunink, Alex Baril. Carly Carneal and Kaleb Ritter. She was preceded in death by her husband Mike, her son-in-law Bob Cline, her great granddaughter Ashley Prutch, her parents, all of her sisters, brothers, and in-laws. Hard to be the last survivor but she did it the best that she could. She remained in her own home until about 6 months ago. What a strong person and amazing person! Think of all the changes she saw and adapted to in her lifetime. From horse and buggy days to men on the moon and the computerized age we have now.
