Obituary of Hazel B. Eikermann

  HAZEL EIKERMANN

Hazel Belle (See) Eikermann was born December 11, 1907 and went to be with the Lord on

August 27, 2019.

In 1904 Lottie Ryan and her four year old daughter, Inez May, came to Manning, Kansas to assist uncle John Ryan in his grocery store and Post Office.   In 1905, Irvin See and Lottie Ryan were married and moved to the 160 acre Homestead in Scott County, Kansas.  On this homestead they lived, farmed, ranched and struggled to provide a lovely, lively, contented Christian home for their family.   Ten children were born to this union, creating a family of eleven children.  They were Inez May, Fern, Hazel, Robert Lewis, Ernest, Basil, Dorothy, Pearl, Russell, Lorena, and Walter.

Winter evenings for this family were spent playing games like rook, dominoes, & fox & goose. Her mother played the pump organ as the children sang.  She took piano lessons while in High School, and they all took turns in learning to play on their piano.  Church was very important in their household.   Her father became a deacon in the Church and the Bible was read aloud every morning with a prayer.

Hazel was the first person to graduate from Manning High School in 1927.   She began teaching as a home schooler and taught children from their respective families.  She taught in a one-room school at the Center School...five miles away.   She taught there for two terms...then taught at Grigston, Ks for the next two years, and at Superior School in Lone Prairie for 3 more years.

On June 29, 1933 she married Leo Eikermann in Leoti, Ks.   A son, William was born in June, 1934.  A daughter, Bonita was born in September, 1937.  Robert, her third child was born in Scott City, Kansas in May 1945.   The family moved to Flagler, Colorado in May, 1946, and stayed there for many years.    Hazel and Leo were both active Boy Scout Leaders while Billy was in the program. Hazel was very active in the church life of the Baptist Church, just across the street from their house.  She moved to Ft. Collins, Colorado while Bob was attending the University.  She then moved to Denver where she worked at Cinderella City. Bonita suggested she move to Boise when she retired and she lived there 19 years before moving back to Flagler.

MY BUT SHE LOVED TO PLAY CARDS, you name it and she was ready to play.  Bridge, Canasta, pitch, or any card game, and she was a fierce competitor...and really enjoyed any game she played.

On December 6, 1997, all of her family and friends helped her celebrate her 90​^th​  Birthday at the school lunchroom in Flagler.  It was an afternoon reception, and many, many friends, relatives, and the people of Flagler came to visit and wish her a “Happy Birthday”.

In December 2007 we once again had a Wonderful “Happy birthday Party” to celebrate her 100​^th​  year.   And what a great time we all had in once again seeing all the relatives and friends in Flagler at the Community Center.

  Hazel moved to the Lincoln Community Hospital and Nursing home in Hugo, Colorado

when she was 105 .  The family really appreciates the wonderful care that she received while there.  

           She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Leo, son William (Bill), grandsons Mark, Mike & Ronnie, and all her brothers and sisters.

She is survived by her son Robert & his wife, Shermalee, Williams’s wife, Betty, her daughter,Bonita & husband Jim Perkins.  She had eleven grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren, and three great great grandchildren.
