Obituary of Milton Lamm
Milton Charles Lamm, age 96, of Ramah, Colorado passed away March 12, 2015 at his home. He was born on October 26, 1918 to Jay Denny and Louisa Melinda (Hofer) Lamm. He joined four older half brothers, Walter, John, Gideon Carner, and Grover Sheldon Lamm. A year and a half later he was join by a fifth brother, Virgil.
After graduating from Ramah High School in 1937, he attended Blair Business College in Colorado Springs, Colorado and North Central College in Naperville, Illinois returning home in the summer to help on the farm. During the third year of his college he received his draft orders to serve in World War II. Being of Quaker background and a conscientious objector he was able to serve his duty as a smokejumper in the Forest Service located in Missoula, Montana. During his duty time he jumped on forest fires in the western United States. Upon returning home from his four-year stint with the smokejumpers, he helped his father with the farming. Later he purchased the farm and ranch operation from his parents.
Through his church attendance, Milton became acquainted with a young Simla schoolteacher. He was married to Wilma Gail Fossinger on July 7, 1950. The couple made their home on the Jay Lamm homestead farming and working side jobs. To this union were born three sons: Berton Jay, Charles, and Norlyn, and two daughters: Gail and Marlene.
In 1973 Wilma was diagnosed with a form of slowly progressing Multiple Sclerosis, which finally left her paralyzed and in a wheelchair for some 15 years. Milton took immaculate care of her until her death. The two were always on the go attending many family, church, and community events. Their love for each other was always as strong as the first day they met. On October 31, 1995, death took Wilma from him. He was then able to give his full attention to the farming and ranching operations again. Milton worked many years as a blacksmith and welder for Herb and Irene Schuster at Schusters Shop in Simla. With the help of his son Norlyn, Milton was able to maintain the operations and position of chief CEO until his death.
Milton was preceded in death by his parents, Jay and Louisa Lamm, his wife of 45 years, Wilma, and brothers Walter, John, and Gideon Carner, Grover and Virgil Lamm. He is survived by sons and daughters Berton Jay (Marty) Lamm, Gail Taylor, Charles Lamm, Norlyn (Laurie) Lamm, Marlene (Rob) Phillips, 12 grandchildren and 8 great- grandchildren.
